Gosh... I didn't know it takes THIS long to get a Social Security Card. They told me it will usually take about 1-2 months since I applied it at another state (different from the state I was born).

I have three jobs that depend on this SSN.... I think I might get "fired" soon since it is taking this long. I try to ask the socail security administration regarding the status, they told me I should get it in ten days (fastest)....

There is no way I can speed it up (like pay extra).... now, I just have to wait and wait.... the funny thing about this is that the social security admin doesn't have a telephone number (it only has the toll-free national number).. everytime I have to get down to their office, and their office closes early (3 pm)...

Sigh.. it's so inefficiency, the way they do things.....:frown:

well.. don't ask me why I didn't have it when I was born.. I don't know.. that's just what happened to me~~

How old are you? It used to be that a newborn didn't have to have a SSN. It wasn't until the late 70s that they changed it so that every baby MUST have a SSN. My older brother was born in 77 and he didn't have one. When I was born in 80 it was required so we both got ours at the same time - our numbers are right after each other :)

That sucks. I couldn't find mine when I applied for my work permit, so I had to send away for it. Luckily for me, it came in about a week, give or take a few days. Come to think of it, I never actually used my SSC to get the work permit. I wsa supposed to send a copy of it in, but I never did.

Sorry there, but that's a misconception. No one is required to have a SS number. Anyone can refuse to get one, however you make yourself ineligible for certain benefits.

if you need it to prove your citizenship to your employers there are other methods of doing so...
1. Your birth certificate and a picture ID (driver's license)
or
2. Your passport if you have one....
I'm sure there are others also....
