Still possible to get W7 beta?

The wikipedia article states, interestingly: "Users can still download Windows 7 via the Microsoft Connect program"

I tried signing up for Microsoft Connect but from that point couldn't see any way to get Windows 7 beta. Anyone know how this would work, or if there's another way?

Thanks!

Beta downloads are closed. There should be a public release candidate though. Not sure when that'll be.

Wow, thanks Bill. But can I do anything with the key itself? Is there somewhere I can still download the software?

You can download it from TPB or similar site 🙂

there's only a small pool of keys handed out by MS... i think the first 5 are 64 bit. mine (gotten from MS themselves) was the first on the list (courtesy of mobby_6kl via /.)

make sure you MD5 the ISO if you get it from torrents/newsgroups.

i'm not sure what the MD5 of my x64 is... (may even have deleted my ISO after a successful install)

here's a popular result from a quick google via MSDN forums:

x64
MD5: 773FC9CC60338C612AF716A2A14F177D
SHA-1: E09FDBC1CB3A92CF6CC872040FDAF65553AB62A5

x86
MD5: d3fd895bab77aec95c309d39e76d4698 ***maybe?***
another site lists
MD5: f9dce6ebd0a63930b44d8ae802b63825
SHA1: ebfabccf7239ef757e8c81159e532871290bd10e

edit2: take the checksums with a grain of salt. i see too many different sums out there...

April 10th seems to be the common speculation

Well, public or not it'll be up on technet.com when it does show up and I'll have my copy whenever. No waiting for public download slots (the MS public download servers get hammered hard) and I'll have it within a day or two of it being available.

I have had the Win7 Betas since day 1 but haven't found the time (new baby daughter) to play around with it. I think I'll reserve some time for the release candidates to play with Win7. Definitely something to watch for.

Hey, thanks to everyone again for the help! I'm putting together an i7 build in the next couple weeks, I'm not sure I'm patient enough to wait until mid April :/ so I'll try to hunt down the torrent when I get a chance.

Have people been making hacked up distributions? I get the prudence of running a checksum but at the same time, if there are lots of different checksums out there, I'm nervous I'll never know for sure.

Sorry to bump such an old thread but after many delays I'm just sourcing the final components for the i7 rig and I'm really hoping to put it together early to mid next week (excited!). I still don't have an OS, however, other than a spare copy of XP Pro 32 bit.

I have an activation code for the Windows 7 beta but still don't have the actual install. Any tips on where to get a reliable ISO?

* Folks above mentioned torrents, I haven't actually used a torrent client in a long time but it sounds like a good plan. How do I know if the one I'm DLing is kosher though?

* Others mentioned Usenet. I think the last time I used usenet was in the mid 90s and I was on a 2400 baud modem connecting to my uncle's server at MIT. Will give this one a shot too, any suggestions on where to look and how to get a clean copy?

Thanks for any and all help, I really appreciate it.

I read this morning that RC1 will be released and available for public download on May 5th. If you want it now, go to one of the popular torrent sites, search Windows 7 7077 (or 7068), sort by Seeders 'descending', and read the comments to be certain.

Thanks Psy! Sorry to ask for all the handholding, I just haven't used torrents much and there was some suggestion above that it might be slightly risky in terms of integrity.

I saw that too, it seems to be official re: May 5. I'll probably hold off on migrating completely to the new system until I can install the RC, but in the meantime I'd love to get the system up and running and play with it. If everything works out I'll have it ready to go a full week before the RC is available.
