Still more overclocking questions...

OK, 2 (more) questions about overclocking PC's.

1) Where is the best, most recently written guide to overclocking on the net? The Anandtech and some other guides I've found are all from Jan. 2000, so I'm afraid that they might be outdated.

2) How far could I safely push a 1.2GHZ? I'm planning on pushing it up to 1.333ghz, but I might go further if I could. Just a general answer... anyone in this forum who has an o'c'd 1.2, what is it overclocked to?

Thanks,
TGHH

A guide from January shouldn't be too outdated. The same priniples have applied to overclockers since overclocking began. There might be more you can do now, but I wouldn't think THAT much had changed since January. How far you can overclock your 1.2 GHz processor is going to directly depend on your particular system. No one can accurately tell you what you can accomplish. In a decently cooled system it might be possible to overclock a 1.2 GHz to 1.4 or higher depending on system components.

1) i don't have any links at the moment but you basically want a socket-a guide...all the info that applied to the 600mhz duron and 700mhz t-bird still applies to your 1.2ghz t-bird. basically, unlock the multiplier (if it didn't come factory unlocked, which some newer chips have) and get yourself an overclocking friendly mobo (i like the epox 8k7a).

2) the 1.2 will pobably reach 1.33 at default voltage. you might be able to get it to 1.4 with a voltage boost...but it's hard to say until you do it. in general, a higher fsb is faster overall than a few mhz faster clock speed.
