I am still looking for a quieter heatsink then my modded millenium2 for my Xp2800 that for the most part, retains a brick shaped block (sorry, no V8's ontop of MY cpu). I finally came accross Thermals takes Silent Boost series, but their web site says it is not out in the US (wich baffles the hell out of me) but when doing searches for a place to buy it, all I can come up with thats closest to it is the Thermaltake RX Series CL-P0295 92mm. Now from the reviews on new egg and the specs, it looks to be a revision of the original silent boost (92mm fan instead of 80mm) how ever I can't find ANY reviews on it, nore do I see it listed on thermaltakes site.

Any insight on this HSF or suggestions for a quiet socket A HSF that dosn't break 15 AMD HSF resrtictions?

I used the original Silent Boost K7 to cool my overclocked XP-M 2600+ @ 2.4Ghz and it worked very well. The stock Thermaltake fan was a little loud for my tastes, so I replaced with a quiet Panaflo L1A fan.

Looking at those pictures from Newegg, that heatsink looks identical to my Silent Boost. I'd say the fan is much quieter as well, as the original spec for the 80mm on mine was 28dBa (vs. 18dBa on the RX).

I recently upgraded to a Sempron system and put my old Silent Boost K7 on Ebay. You could get it and a very quiet 80mm fan of your choice for much cheaper than the RX new from Newegg.

The SI-97A looks to be pretty nice. Thought of getting it myself. You can place a nice quiet 92mm fan on it or undervolt it for even quieter operation. To be honest, I don't know if it violates any AMD restrictions.

I always recommend the Masscool or Spire Whisper Rock or Falcon Rock units. They do plenty well for a reasonable price. I have a moderately customized Whisper Rock here if you're interested (all parts new).

I've got a TT big typhoon on my Barton 2500. Of course it's the wrong shape for the OP, but i felt the need to contribute regardless.

Heat sinks don't generate noise - fans do.

Replace the fan with a quieter fan. Under-volt the fan if necessary.

I'd avoid coolers that use custom fans (Zalman series), since you have no freedom to replace the fans with fan-of-choice or use vibration-isolating mods.

Coolers with 120mm fans provide a better combination of good cooling with low noise.

Hope this helps!

dunk, fans dont make noise, the air hitting the heatsink does. ;p So both need to be an efficent design. And the millenium2's fan is embeded inside the heatsink, so its not something I can swap out.

I saw the reviews on that 7000 but I don't like it because it spreads out, possibly interfearing with other components in my case. I don't need wicked cooling, a block cooler that dosnt spread out would be fine.

Alpha S-PAL8055FU: One of the best socket A heatsinks though you might have to use a different fan unless the included Detla undervolts really well.

Thermalright SI-97A: The best socket A heatsink; it's also compatible with socekt 754/939 so you'll be able to carry it over when/if you upgrade. Par it with this Panaflo or this Delta.
