UPDATE: Still in Stock - Last checked: 10/11 @10:27AM EST...

Warning! Several people have reported that the motherboards they received didn't work (you can contact the store back and return the defective motherboards). However, some of us had no problem with this motherboard (just make sure you set it up properly; there's a link to the motherboard documentation and led diagrams (gateway customized) somewhere in this thread, a bit lower. This is still a warm deal, but you may spend some time before finally running your orphan processor :p

www.overstock.com
Get them while they're still there! $39, reburbished; will run your celeron II's!

This board supports CuMine chips. Just use a good slocket, which allowes for voltage ajustment. I run my Celeron II 566 @ 850 without any problems.
Regarding FSB speed above 100 MHz. Come on, it's Intel board--no non-standard speeds supported. :) Only 66 and 100 MHz. Great for overcklocking Celerons only.

Not a bad deal. I would jump on it, but a few weeks ago I bought 2 used BX boards from a local computer store for $10 apiece. One was from a company called Wintac and one was an Asus P2B. 5 day warranty, but for $10 I couldn't pass this deal up. Both boards are running great!

Anyone remember the link to the old thread? I got one of these and need to flash the BIOS and see if that fixes my problem. (The AGP slot doesn't work)

The old thread isn't available. I had it bookmarked, and I can't get there any longer. Must be archived or deleted.
Just go to dogpile.com and search for mp440bx, thats how I found my info..

Got one of these from the last go around. The floppy controller only works if it's not overclocked. ie, 66 mhz FSB instead of 100 FSB. Same for the built in sound. (another sound card does work).
Anybody know something to try for the floppy? I don't see a PCI/FSB = 1/3 setting any where?

Remember that the pinouts are exactly the same as the manual. Someone from the last thread has a pinout picture that he would email you if you asked.
Just a fyi..

i used the layout from the last thread and it doesn't seem to match up with the board. the pins are to the left of the IDE controllers right?

Bought MP440BX - DOA after first boot, it wouldn't boot up.

Purchased MSI 6182 from overstock last month, died on me.

Buyer beware, this refurb board stuff has definitely not worked for me.

Will see how overstock handles my returns.

No more refurb boards for me thank you. Not worth the effort.

No flames please - just my own experience trying to help others.

Just my 2 cents, but i've always had nothing but problems with refurb mainboards at my work, no matter what brand, abit, asus, etc. It seems like every one we rma for a customer comes back and has different problems or the same as what it was sent in for. Unless you're really hurting for cash, i suggest you pass on these. If you want a good board, try getting the P6PRO-A+ motherboard from www.tekram.com, it's only $49 brand new and supports celeron, P2, P3, up to 700MHz!! I just got one myself and it works flawlessly.
Anyhow, good luck! :)

I've received my mobo last week, set it up yesterday. To my actualy surprise, it booted straight to Windows on first try. I just couldn't get the Power Led (mine is 3-pin) to light up, but everything else worked. There is however a problem (as always w/ refurb). Nick Stone already mentioned a problem at FSB 100Mhz. Me too; at 100Mhz, my floppy does work, and so does my CD-R drive, but my DVD-ROM will not work properly. If I run my 566 at default 566 (FSB 66), then the problem goes away. I will try a real 100FSB processor (maybe my 500E) to see if the problem only pertains to overclocked FSB. Afterall this is an INTEL board, and the PCI divider may not be automatically assigned at 100 to 3 ??? Maybe it recognized the celeron and gave it a 2 for PCI divider (50Mhz PCI BUS), which could explain why my dvd-rom won't run properly. I'll keep you updated when I check the board w/ a real 100FSB CPU.

From personaly experience: Refurb problems ARE problematic. I agree with daveybrat on this one. It's just that people had positive experience from this refurb mobo on overstock.com the last time they were available, so I figured they'd be a safe bet. As I said, mine runs fine on an unoverclocked celeron 566, and it runs fine minus the dvd-rom on an overclock 566@850.

I can live with this one mobo because it was 1. VERY CHEAP 2. EVEN CHEAPER Considering it's an INTEL board 3. VERY STABLE

DieselMan,
I had similar problem (no CD drive found) with CII 566@850, but I managed to solve it by connecting CD drive to the primary IDE channel and HD--to the secondary.
Worked like charm for me. My daughter doesn't have any problems with this board ever since.

I bought one of the mp440BXs from overstock. It was very unstable. It would boot some of the time, then not even POST other times. Swapped out power supplies but no change.

I already RMA's one and the second one was DOA. I guess I was unlucky, but I'm going to stay away from refurbs from now on.

Just not worth my time for the $ saved.

Hey Siberian Dude, thanks for the tips :) I'll try it later!

Yeah, I also have a 3-pin Power Led. Does anyone know where to stick the connector to get the light on, since the diagram is for a 2-pin Power Led connector? Thanks!

I guess I got lucky on this board. It ran beautifully (save for the dvd-rom). I never saw such huge capacitors by the CPU slot before!

I couldn't get my MP440BX to boot either, but Overstock cheerfully refunded my geld and even emailed me a label I printed out that allowed me to UPS the mobo back to them for free. Maybe if I could have figured out the pinout arrangement I could have made the board boot. In any case, as DaveyBrat suggested I bought a new Tekram P6PRO-A+ from the on-line store for $49 plus S&H and it has worked flawlessly (though it seemed to be the 100 FSB version rather than the 133 FSB version advertised). Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be available any more, though they do have a new 810 chipset Socket 370 mobo available for $45.95.

dieselman:
i had a similiar problem with mine. a hard drive as the primary master would have what sounded like a head crash when it powered up but it worked fine on another system so i set it as the secondary master and the problem went away.

tk-421:
i have my mp440bx in a case with a three pin power led lead(it had one anyway). i just ripped the right wire out(i had to pry a back panel off the plastic part to get it out), stuck it in the middle hole, and cut the third hole off with snips. it worked fine.

BTW, mine ran fine and is 100% stable.

Siberian dude, msarah, and everyone else,
I swapped the primary IDE cable with the secondary IDE cable, and my DVD-ROM problems all went away! Thanks! Now, my CD-R drive and my DVD-ROM drive are on the primary IDE channel, and my HD on the secondary. My system is ROCK STABLE with my celery II 566@850, and I don't have problems with the floppy disk drives either! I guess I got really lucky on this deal; this is the best mobo I have ever bought for under 80 bucks (and by far the best since I only paid half of that amount)!

Guys, just be careful when you buy refurbed mobos; always expect problems and RMA's, but once in a while, you'll get some good stuff!
