Still having slow boot times

I am having problems with what I think are extremely slow boot times for my rig. When I turn it on and until it boots into the OS with 23 processes, it takes 22 seconds. But then there is a period of over 1 minute to load the rest of my processes (38 total), and I can't open anything until all the process are loaded. So the total boot time is close to 1:30...In my startup list in msconfig, there are only 8 programs (no firewall or anit-virus). any suggestions on how to speed this up?

How long has it been since you reinstalled windows. if it has been a while and I reinstall it is always a good deal quicker even after I reinstall all my programs

I just installed it in June. It's been like that since the install. It's just now that I am sick and tired of the slow boot times.......Come on. Doesn't anyone have a suggestion?

Are you using a USB keyboard by chance? If so, try a PS2 one just as a test. At the minimum, you can rule this out as a possible issue.

That's funny that you should mention that, but I do use a USB keyboard. Would that cause slow boot times? I have a Logitech MX1000, but I have it as a PS2 to free up the USB ports. Unfortunately, this keyboard doesn't give me the option of plugging in PS2. I will have to buy an adaptor for that, but I'll give it a try.

Just a question, why would a USB keyboard slow up my boot times?

I don't know what others think of this, but I've succesfully used BootVis for troubleshooting startup delays...

BootVis

Also, you say you have no firewall or anti-virus loading - have you scanned for any viruses or spyware? That's something I'd check, even on a computer I was pretty sure was fine. You never know...

I'm pretty sure my system is clean. I ran a HijackThis yesterday just to make sure and everything came up fine. I even did an online scan and I'm clean.....

The one thing that I heard about bootvis is that it will either help you, or screw your system up. Makes me a little nervous to try it...

Just try it with any old keyboard that you might have laying around. At bootup, the system (default for most) will attempt to give legacy support for USB keyboards when detected. I've found that this is really slows down boot time in a lot of instances. Unless you really need it, disabling legacy support should solve the problem.

I suppose BootVis could screw up your system if you select "optimize boot" (or whatever the option is), but if it's only tracking the boot process and displaying a graph, what harm could it do?

(I've never heard of BootVis screwing up a machine, what happens when it does?)

I thought that you were suppossed to select optimize boot when using Bootvis. I didn't know it also tracks and graphs your boot process.......I'll give it a shot.

(I have no idea of what it does to screw up the system, I just read it on some random website)

I only have my one keyboard and it's USB...What would happen if I disabled Legacy support for USB in BIOS? Would that help?
