Setup:

Shuttle AN35-N Ultra
AMD Athlon XP 2400+ XP Mobile
2 x 512 Corsair PC3200 Value Select
Raidmax Case/PSU

Last night the new RAM came in (the Corsair), I set everything up like this:

CPU multiplier: 8x
FSB: 200
RAM: 200 FSB, 8-3-3-2.5 (By SPD), sitting in slots 1 and 3.
spread spectrums: disabled

Temps and voltages are fine in BIOS. I ran memtest last night and on the 12th pass I had a couple hundred errors. I bumped the vdimm to 2.7 and I had about 20,000 errors within the first few minutes!

I'm wondering if my 2400+ mobile can't cut 200 FSB? Should I drop the FSB to 185 and try a 10x multiplier? What else could be causing memtest errors?

Seems to me that the ram is likely faulty.

I wouldn't blame the CPU at all

I'd try 11-4-4-2.5 before I'd reduce the FSB

Could run memtest on just one stick at a time. Maybe find that one is bad.

Could also try different dimm slots and run memtest. Dual Channel ain't no big thing anyway in these platforms.

EDIT: Slots 2 & 3 will give you DC too. ! & 2 won't

Fern, this is brand new Corsair RAM (not that it couldnt be bad) that I bought to replace because the old RAM (2 x 256 of A-Data PC3200) was giving me these errors as well. I can go ahead and test the ram in my other rig, but I doubt it's the ram. I'll try the different timings. I also got ram errors in slots 2 + 3.

Could the motherboard be at fault at all?

Well, I ordered some VS several months ago and had errors in memtest with it as well. I didn't feel like dick'in around with it so returned it got the XMS. Plus, I knew I was gonna run above FSB 200 and felt sure it wasn't gonna handle it, no headroom with this stuff

I couldn't get it to run with the timings you're using at 200/400mhz. As in your case more vdimm really raised h3ll in memtest.

Might try changing the cas to 3 as well. I think mine SPD'd to like 8-4-4-3. But I didn't wanna at cas 3 either, at least not at FSB 200.

I guess there's always the possibility it's the mobo. After all, the mem controller's on it with this platform. Check the chipset voltage maybe.

I have a very similar setup and I originally had 2x 512mb vs (the cas2.5 version). I tried to add a 3rd stick and I also had mem test errors. I ran mem test with just the 3rd stick and had the errors as well. I haven't gotten around to checking out the third stick yet again, so I will probably have to rma it. right now i am running with all three slots full without mem tests errors. The original 2x 512mb vs and a third stick of 512mb Hyperx pc3200. I run it all at 2.5 3 3 8 I believe.
