I suppose if I wanted a business-class server, I'd find a Xeon system. But my home-server needs are not "business-class." Really, there are only three flesh-and-blood users. An old Q6600 is still overkill firepower.
I have piles of junk accumulated from building new computers and maintaining them as they age. Among the junk, parts that can be used for some limited, well-defined purpose.
It's just interesting to trace how there were end-user needs and wants accommodated to a Moore's Law scenario. One friend -- not too computer savvy -- was rocking an old Pentium with Win 95 system until maybe 2007. That just seems like a mismatch to any end-user mainstreamer. But then, this is a 2014 perspective.
