A German court has ordered former Thin Lizzy guitarist Gary Moore to pay damages after ruling the guitar solo in his 1990 hit ?Still Got the Blues? had been plagiarized from a German song written in 1974.

A court in the southern city of Munich said on Wednesday the solo in Moore?s song was too similar to the one in ?Nordrach? by the band Jud?s Gallery not to have been copied ? even though the German song was not available on record at the time.

In a statement, the court ordered Moore, 56, from Northern Ireland, and his record label to pay damages to band leader Juergen Winter who brought the case. The amount has yet to be fixed.

Yes, they sound damn similar, in fact, If I heard it in passing, I'd think it was a crappy youtube cover attempt of the Irishman's moving solo....but nope, it precedes Gary's 18 year old, excellent, soulful melody line in perhaps his most recognizable piece of work by a good 16 years, and the courts say "pay up copycat"

Damage award amount is yet to be fixed.

This crap sucks and has ruined the music industry. Blues artists borrowed from each other for 60 years before it suddenly became "illegal" when some asses got their law degrees in the 1980's. There's an old joke that says "there are only 3 blues songs...the rest are lifted."

Art = money and nothing else in today's world.

It'll be interesting to see what financial damages Moore is forced to pay.

The court said it had no evidence the solo had been lifted deliberately, but that this was immaterial in copyright infringement.

Apparently it doesn't matter, but......Gary said he'd never heard the song.....OK, that I can believe, however,
Juergen Winter claimed he'd never heard Moore's blatant "thievery" until his girl told him about it 10 years after "Still got the blues" was released...wtf?
