Still freezing...cannot figure it out.

AMD Athlon 64 x2 3800+
2x512 Corsair XMS CAS2 RAM
ATI Radeon X800XL
Case: Gigabyte Aurora 3d
PSU OCZ Modstream 450W

Run the memtest...it run for about 2 1/2 hours and passed 7 times without errors.
It has AMD 64 patch and the dual core hotfix from MS. Also the latest drivers for all devices and bios is updated too.
ATI card is using Omega 6.2 Drivers, thought that getting rid of the VPU recover like some suggested would take care of the issue.

I'm experiencing random freezing...not a blue screen...plain freeze.

Wondering if that Video card is just getting too hot and boom...

Suggestions or ideas appreciated

Is this new hardware, or have you been using it for a couple of months?

edit: I asked because I had overheating issues yesterday since the weather has finally started getting warmer where I am.

so did your computer just freeze?
what is the room temp where you have your computer?
what are the specs on your system?

I'm thinking of buying a better cooling solution for the video card but definitely need some guidance/opinions.

Why don't you use motherboard monitor or some similar program to check the video card temperature ?

USUALLY, buying used computer equipment is like buying a used car, you are usually buying someone else's problem(s) !!!

ASUS's software popped up and warned me that the temperature exceeded the threshold I'd set. The room was whatever the temperature in Pittsburgh was yesterday. It's an Athlon XP 2100+, with a Radeon 9600 Pro.

i will check my epox cd but I dont remember a system monitor...

i'm going to go beserk

keeps freezing...I have a fan blowing at it while i troubleshoot and still...

then the computer would not post...and then i pulled my flash drive out and boom it posted...

but the computer has frozen without the flash drive...

I'm kinda of lost...

wait....i used to have the same problem w/ my epox board...i went through 2 9npa+ultra boards & had the same thing on my 9npa+sli. It would freeze randomly & often w/ a usb 2.0 wireless device connected, & less frequently if not connected & it drove me nuts for about 6 months. Is your system stable if you disable USB 2.0 in the bios or add the /onecpu entry to the boot.ini file? (the latter disables one of the cpu cores) This was a temporary fix in my case.

In my case, it was a long, long battle w/ epox, but a beta BIOS (feb. 2006) was finally released (but only by email) that fixed everything. see http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.aspx?catid=29&threadid=1568747. If your system is stable by trying the above, then definately try the bios, which there might be a link to in that topic. if not then maybe i could send it your way....i feel your pain man
