Still can't play .avi!

I have a fresh install of WinME and neither windows media player (both versions) or realplayer can run .avis.

Anybody got a clue what I need? This is, I promize, the last selfish thread from me for a long time. Promise TIA

Are you sure they aren't encoded in DivX?

Firstly, get rid of "Me", and put 98se back....Me is bloated and useless, and nowhere near as polished...Secondly, get the ..quicktime(apple) player, this will play them fine..

Thanks guys - I'm on ME because it makes the installation so damn mindless I just could not resist installing it I was also hoping it would get my TV card. It didn't, but its too late now!

I can't say its that fast on a p2 350 with 128 ram though, although I'll be upgrading soon. I haven't used a computer this slow in 18 months.

I had it on for a while, by the time you finish turning off all the "added features" you will find that it truly does suck...98se all the way...Pc health, and system restore are both useless cr3p

Argh - QT not work either! Files must have been bad. I like QT though. Hate Apples but QT is a nice piece of work.

If I get enough resources perhaps ME not so bad?

I would have been running win2k; thats what I have on my other computer that is now 1700 miles away but a 350 with 128 ram has no business running win2k.

Yeah, it's bare allright, but can you say registryaaaaaargh...nah, 98se is the only m/soft that is worthy, x-cept for, of course, beloved 2k....But se has the best third party support, by far...

if you want to make everything run reeeeeeeeeal fast, get a copy of tweakme, with it, you can tweak everything but most importantly, you can make your sys constantly refresh, and completely use ram before using any page file...I got 384mb, and my page file is usually never used...Fastf3kker!!!

I should check that - I haven't checked tweakme out in at least a year. I find that I am used to a better comp (My other one is a dual 533 with 256 ram and win2k) and I'm running so much crap at once this thing suffocates every 3 hours requiring a reboot. Argh!

Darn it! I have now tried 4 software packages and all I get is audio under all of them and no video at all on several different .avi files!
