Ok, this whole system I'm building is way too much for me, but... I can afford it and I like going crazy. But... is 4gb too much? I thought about buying two 2gb kits of ocz pc3500 for 560$, but than I thought that I might not really need it (not a heavy user, no programming, video/audio editing, no heavy gaming) or can I go for simple 4x512mb. I started checking out prices and saw it go from 80$ to 300$ again. So wht should I do?
4x1gb , ocz pc3500 @ 550$ or 4x512mb , _______ @ ______ $
(the _______ is where u guys come in) .
thanks.

get 2x1gb cosair valueselect $186 @ newegg

You can also throw in another two sticks if needed (which I highly doubt by looking at what you do with the PC)

Well 2gb because some games might take alot of resources..... And also its cheaper to buy DDR now than later, because prices ARE rising. Just 2 months ago, you could pick up CVS 2x 512 for 70 dollars after rebates. Now they are around 85 dollars....

ya thats true hacp. the corsair value ram went up like 5-10 bucks :(. but he said he's not a heavy gamer, so i'd recommend against going for 2gb. up to him i guess.

Hacp has a good point. Go with 2x1GB now. You definitely won't need more than that though. 4GB is OMFGWTFBBQ overkill, probably even for systems doing heavy video encoding, graphics rendering, etc.

Ok, now we all know that 4gb is overkill, especially in my case. I'm always happy to learn.
So I'm going for 2gb. I'm not going to oc much, just a bit. you know how much I was about to spend on ram, now how do i use it to get the best 2gb ?
also , is 4x512 better than 2x1gb ?

DDR Ram will conintue to get most expensive as DDR2 becomes the standard... even AMD is slated to put their memory controller over to DDR2 next year.

Consider this.. if you use all 4 mem slots you have to drop to 2T because of the way the memory control works now... Go with 2x1GB Nice OCZ $270

Also 4GB runs into issues with windows32 being able to address it properly... when you go over 3GB of ram.

BTW, this is the whole system, if you have any more changes to suggest, I'll listen.
I know, and I'm not afraid to say this computer is overkill right now, since I'm now a heavy user, but I have my own reasons, so don't downgrade every component.
Athlon 64 x2 4400+
asus a8n sli premium
__gb ram
2x 250gb maxline III sata hdd
Lacie dvd rw with lightscribe
samsung cdrw
BFG 7800gtx oc
Tt hardcano 13
Tt armor
Tt silent purepower 560w
Thermalright 90c + panaflo 92mm bx
Creative audigy z2 platinum

.
defenatly overkill, but that's what I'm aiming at. if you have something u think I should change, to something else who is almost the same but better , you're welcome to

PC3500 will have like a 1-2% performance incrase. Definitely not worth the money. I would switch out that TT Purepower for an Antec/OCZ/Enermax/Seasonic/Sparkle/Fortron. Thermaltake is an okay brand, but for such an expensive computer, you might as well get a really good PSU too. This will also give you a lot more upgrading headroom. I'd say get around a ~500W PSU from any of the above manufacturers. Oh, and the 7800GTX OC isn't necessary. Just get a stock 7800GTX and OC it yourself. It's not hard at all :p
