Still Alive.

LOL!

"Now for disappointment number 2, the Pentium II. This is what angers me about Intel, what angers me is that they would pull another Microchannel based idea out of their sleeves. You all remember the Microchannel right? Based on the good ?ole MCA Bus and extremely proprietary, you couldn?t even think about putting a generic anything in a Microchannel. These babies went for about $7,000 when they were first released and soon became another word for a doorstop. Intel is doing basically the same thing with the Pentium II, charging about $900 for the chip and requiring an odd proprietary SEC (single edge connector) motherboard design for the chip to operate on. Don?t get me wrong, I like Intel and their processors, however recently, in my opinion, they have been getting too greedy. Think about this now, a Pentium II ? 300 going for $1970, something is not right here. $1970 for a processor which requires a much higher clock rate to get a slight improvement over its brother the Pro (sniff sniff?do I smell an Alpha wannabe?) Who should buy the Pentium II? In my opinion, the Pentium II will not be a choice until the 300MHz version drops in price (going by the $1970 estimated street cost), SIGNIFICANTLY."

Well, some things have changed 🙂

Future CPU Predictions

<< High End Workstations/Servers - These systems cannot be used in conjunction with the word average. Since they are way beyond that, these powerhouses are meant to be used for the heavy programmer, image rendering/editing, the user who just loves to multitask, and definitely NOT for a Win95 standalone system. Expect to run at least NT (if not in addition to 95), Linux would also be a nice complement. Bottom line, these systems do not rely on processing power alone, expect these systems to have above 2GB worth of HDD Space and at least 32MB of RAM.

High End Workstations/Servers

AMD K6-PR2/233

AMD K6-PR2/266

Cyrix M2-PR2/233

Intel PentiumPro - 200 (1MB)

Intel Pentium II - 233 (512K)

Intel Pentium II - 266 (512K)

Intel Pentium II - 300 (512K)

I found one of my old computers in storage. It was the state of the Art at the time. Intel 233mmx O/C to 3.5x75=266.

I remember being sad at the time it did not made it to 3.5x83=290 MHz.

I fired it up and the above address was the dominant address in the History file.

So, I decided to take a look.

This post is written on a cheaper 1.8GHz rig.

In storage eh? 🙂
*Sigh* I must contend to seeing all my former ventures still up and running around the house.

This is absolutely the coolest thing I've read in months! 😎 Sad? I don't think so. I remember these machines! I remember people bragging about a 200MHz CPU like it was the second coming of Christ. These days, a 200MHz overclock is considered amateurish! :Q How ironic, huh?

damn, u know till about 4 months ago I had that "high end workstation server" (altho with 64 MB me and 4 GB harddisk ..)

am I happy to have a new comp just before it gets declared extinct 😀

I was in high school the last time that page was updated. I remember getting really excited when I got a pentium 166. That seems like ages ago heh heh heh.

hah, and I think of the $500 P4's as insanely expensive nowadays... 🙂
