Sticky tranny?

I've heard that a new manual tranny is sticky...what exactly does this mean?

On my new car, if I just press up or down, it's a bit hard and makes a little "clunk" or whatever sounds (i tried it while parked)...but if i get religious on the shift, it barely makes a clink

I find it pretty gay that just normal movement feels like a "hard shift" while if u pay attention (and take 2-3x the time) and shift just perfect it's fine

Will my tranny loosen up or whatever as I continue to drive it? I'm paranoid of screwing up the tranny. lol

As the synchro rings start to wear, they get a bit more surface area, tend to spin up the next gear faster, resulting in faster shifting. That's my theory 😛

You could try using synthetic lube in the tranny (like Redline), that'll prolly help.

No, it's fine. The 'clunk' is the tranny parts moving around inside..heh -- don't worry about it.

Is it your first m/t car?

yeah, first manual

it's like, i drive and shift...just get the natural feel....but it always feels "sticky" or whatever...or rough to change. it's like i have to be religious and get a 100% straight line to avoid that. i swear, it takes me back to the days when my dad would drive around in his manual truck

You'll get better -- it just takes practice.

My 'gates' were a little vague and rough for the first 500 miles or so after I got my new car. Feels like it has fully loosened up now though (about 1700 miles), it 'snicks' into every gear easily.

just drove tonight....i got to know the car...

i fvckin p0wned the car tonight!!!

didn't have to think about starting out of first gear, shifting was so smooth it felt like an automatic

course, this was at night with no distractions and where i could be at peace. we'll see how it is during the day

Oh definitely, it's very hard to resist. The power delivery, the handling, it's all so addicting. 😀
