I reply in the Computer Help forum on a fairly regular basis and see a large percentage of posts by new members, asking legitimate questions, who (for whatever reasons) fail to post their hardware specs and OS. (many of us do request that info but more often the post has already been swamped with useless replies and the new member long gone).

What do you think of having a one sentence, "read before posting", sticky informing new posters that they need to include their hardware specs and OS if they expect intelligent suggestions, without helpful members having to play 21 questions first?

.

"That" sticky works well for new General Hardware forum posters requesting help on new builds. However, I was specifically asking about a very brief sticky tailored to new Computer Help forum posters.

No, I was only suggesting that a forum mod post a locked sticky on the first page of the Computer Help forum. Maybe title it; "Please read before posting help requests", and just a sentence or so to let new members know that if they'll include their hardware specs and OS in their post, it really helps other members to give them quicker and more accurate feedback.

Good idea but it only works if people actually read the sticky, which I'm sure 100% of people do 😉

Imagined what headaches could be saved if the forum would FORCE a first timer to a sub-forum to have to click on all stickies before being allowed to read/post in the sub-forum.
