Sticky pad or RS paste?

I am sure this is a FAQ here, but I couldn't find an answer, so::eek:

If I install an Intel stock FCPGA heatsink, which is better: keeping the pad Intel put there, or removing it and applying some RS paste? And would lapping the HS before applying the RS paste be advised?

Thanks,

JesseKnows (many things, but is new to Cases & Cooling)

Get the pad off with goo-gone, butane, or vegetable oil...

THe RS grease is better than the intel pad.

<< And lapping? >>

if you're willing to go that far with the retail HS, why not just buy a better HSF?

The operative word is "buy". I like to tinker, and I have to justify to myself actually spending money on something.

Lapping is elbow grease, which I can spend just for the heck of it, and sandpaper which I can wite off petty cash.

So, should I lap the stock HS?:)
