...and I thought to myself...

This chick is wacko.. Does she not understand that her car still runs on GASOLINE? If it weren't for opec, she wouldn't be moving at all, or, if she was, gas would be $10.00/gallon.

The lady's heart was in the right place, but her brain was missing.

I say you should file a suit on behalf of Bill Watterson, since the only official Calvin and Hobbes merchandise that's ever been sold are the books.

Uh?

It's the thought that counts.

It's not like she can go out and buy a fuel-cell car or something.

She is openly chastizing something she relies upon.

That is just idiotic.

Its like saying, I hate beer drinkers and then you go and drink odouls. I mean, its not "real" beer so its ok, right?

Not quite. Like Eli said, she doesn't have much of a choice in the matter. Just because she has to rely on something doesn't mean she has to be in awe of it, heh. That's like saying a Windows user can't say "Microsoft sucks."

Openly chastizes? I see it more as a desire to tell opec to go to hell. That desire should be in every red blooded american. Opec is a cartel whose members help fund terrorism. America needs to break it's dependence on foriegn oil and hybrids are the first step in that freeing.

Why is OPEC going to allow full pumping and drop all restrictions on exports? Have you asked yourself that? It's because they know that if oil prices stay this high america will have the financial incentive to switch to a different energy source. Without our dependence they don't get our money and they can't influence us at the most basic level.

Did she HAVE to buy a car at all? She's supporting OPEC and 'pissing' on it.

I understand trying to move away from oil, I'm all for it, but is she really 'sticking to OPEC' by buying that car? No.

Kinda hard to completely boycott OPEC, eh? At least she's doing what, in her mind, she can do to lessen her reliance on oil.

It's going to take years and years to replace the oil based infrastructure we have...

It's enevitable. There's only so much oil left on the planet.

Here we argue about whether theres 10 or 20 years of cheap oil left. It doesen't matter if there's 100, that's still not very long & many of us will begin to feel the effects in our lifetimes.

yes, oh smart one. i'm sure she doesn't realize that her car runs on gas, especially since SHE HAS TO FILL IT UP HERSELF.

everyone hates OPEC, she just did what most people are too selfish and unwilling to do - buy a hybrid.

It's not that it's a bad thing, the action and the sticker just don't go together. If it WAS an electric car it would make sense, but it's not. She is still supporting OPEC, so why act like she isn't.

Chevy - Calvin pissing on Ford=funny, why? Because it's NOT a Ford.
Ford - Calvin pissing of Chevy=funny, why? Becaues it's NOT a Chevy.

Oil using car - Calvin pissing on oil producing cartel != funny, the car still uses oil.

well thats not possible, and she's doing the next best thing. limiting her support of said cartel as much as possible. theres nothing wrong with that. preserves enviroment, and doesn't guzzle gas, can't complain.

the point is she's trying, more then can be said for most.

lol.. or not practical. I'm unwilling to buy a hybrid because nissan doesnt make a hybrid maxima.

cant fit 2 kids and my wife in an insight either

I checked the local ford dealership on the hybrid escapes yesterday since my wife works for a company who is buying her a ford vehicle. They dont have any documentation on when they will be available and even then, only 25,000 of them are being produced so the chance of us getting one is slim to nil. Couple this with the fact most of our driving is highway it really has little benefit to us.

I looked last night, there seem to be ~170 refineries in the US, the vast majority owned by US oil companies & they're all working @ ~90% capacity.

You make it sound like using gasoline is a bad thing. It's not.

If God didnt want us to use it, he wouldnt have put it there. :)

But seriously, I have no problems whatsoever using gasoline. Using your logic, everybody should have a manual push mower without an engine, the old school kind. People who have an hour commute every day should leave 3 hours early and ride their bikes.

If they aren't, they obviously aren't trying their hardest to stop using gasoline....

whats your definition of a vehicle that guzzles gasoline?

well no... a push mower isn't as close to a power mower as a hybrid is to a normal car. its not comparable. the hybrid is a true viable alternative. gasoline itself isn't bad, its the damn dependence on slightly evil countries who possess it, and the fact that burning excess amounts pollutes the air. not to mention the supply and demand thing, we're digging ourselves a hole. china and other developing economies are using more and more gas, the price is just going to be driven up higher. we should be investing on ways to prepare for this future, not subsidizing giant suvs with tax breaks:p

its not a matter of how much a vehicle uses. but how much it uses for its marketed purpose/actual use.

It's a good effort, she is trying, but that still doesn't make the sticker funny.

edit: or relevant, the car STILL uses gas/oil.
