That whole DVD is great, his performance of Lenny from it is fantastic as well.

Eric Clapton is more of a blues player than SRV. I prefer Clapton to be honest, he makes more of an effort to stay melodic. To be fair, both players tend to go buckwild when soloing.....I've never been a fan of that kind of playing.

Gilmour to me is as good as it gets. He knows his limitations and always tries to stay within the melody, his lack of technical prowess actually aided him to become a much better player IMHO.

I saw him live in concert once. He opened for Robert Plant at the Hartford Civic Center and his performance blew away Plant IMO.

Love SRV...

Brings be back to a time when you had to have talent and actually play an instrument to be called a musician.

I'm not into this kind of music but I liked 'Pride and Joy' by SRV. Though I must say that while he was an amazing musician, most of his tunes sound the same.

How can you say that? Clapton spent most of his years playing in rock bands. SRV was a blues artist.

PBS runs a SRV anthology ( some of the " El Mocambo" is on it I believe) and they also show clips from Austin City Limits, which was right before he died and looked as clean as he ever did. As well as clips from Montreaux. Check it out if you can stand the begging PBS does whenever they entice you to watch this stuff.

Peace
