He should be. He made the biggest difference to his team considering how bad the suns were last year and how little changed. Miami had an up and coming star in Wade... Shaq helped even things out but Nash was like the glue that put all the talent of Phoenix together.

Magic never got it?

EDIT: 3rd PG in 40 years. You need to edit your post.

Nash be da man. But Iverson 5th in the league in assists/game, led in points, steals per game, recognize. Too bad he has no supporting cast or he would have been MVP.

you can make a case for Shaq being the MVP every year, but Nash deserved it.

Only thing I have for Shaq is that he was the MVP of TWO teams this year. Kobe and the Lakers sure showed the world who the mvp of that team was ;)

I like Nash, but I think O'Neal should've of won. If you put JKidd or maybe even Jason Williams instead of Nash, the Suns would still play the same way. No one else can do what O'Neal does.

Of course. Because having your center injured for 90% of the season and star injured for 20 games and coach quitting on you halfway through the season had nothing to do with it. Damn that Kobe, he must have swayed the voters to vote for Nash and not Shaq.

I'm surprised there's been no negative comments here yet. On strictly basketball forums, they're saying that Nash is the worst ever MVP. That Nash has no talent. That Shaq is being robbed. But yet they fail to realize how important Nash really is for the Suns. When he was out for those 10 games or so, the Suns averaged only around 90 points and had a 7/8 game losing streak. If he isn't the most valuable player on his team, then I don't understand who would be better choice this year.

First short, low-scoring white guy to win in a long time!
Nice edit.

I could be wrong but I believe he's the first MVP since Bill Russel to average less than 20 points a game.

That is, unless Wes Unseld or Bill Walton ever won it...

Iverson is good but in regards to scoring, anyone can score big throwing 40 shots up a game. His FG% sucks

What gets me is that Kidd didn't win it a 2-3 years ago when he really deserved it. He had less talent around him, too.

Just a bit of exaggeration there. Nash missed seven games. The Suns went 2-5. So with him, they were 60-15. (64-15, now.) Pretty good difference maker.

Oh please, give me a break. He finished within (in some cases better) than 1 percentage point behind good guards like TMac, Kobe, Ray Allen, Arenas, Antoine, Francis, Maggette, Hughes, Ben Gordon; as well as big men like Carmelo and Webber. Hell, he was only 1.1% behind Nash. In fact, TMac took only 9% less shots than Iverson (158), but scored 20% less points per game (5). Lebron took 8% less shots than Iverson yet scored 11% less per game. Ray Allen took 21% less shots yet scored 25% less per game.

Read on:

Making History
-----------------------------
Iverson became the first player in NBA history to rank in the top five in scoring average, assists per game, and steals per game in a single season. Since steals became an official statistic in 1973-74, no player in NBA history has ever ranked in the top-five in those three categories.

In addition, Iverson captured his fourth scoring title. The title placed him among Wilt Chamberlain, Michael Jordan and George Gervin as the only players in NBA history to capture four or more scoring titles.

Iverson became just the fifth player in NBA history to average more than 30 points and more than eight assists per game in a single season, joining Oscar Robertson, Jerry West, Nate Archibald and Michael Jordan. He had a career high in assists as well.

AI for MVP.

Nash vs AI comparison:
Nash: 15.5 ppg, 3.3 reb, .99 steals, 11.5 assists, 43.5%FG
Iverson: 30.6ppg, 4 reb, 2.40 steals, 7.9 assists, 42.4%FG

Philly would not have even made the playoffs without AI, put any competant PG in Nash's place and they would have had a chance to make it.
