Oyeve, I've seen two posts of yours in two posts that are identical. Why don't you get some new material or at least grow up? :|

Apple is GOOD for us PC users! Competition=lower prices and technology evolving at a faster rate!

My sister and her boyfriend flew to San Francisco, CA for Mac World Expo. and a lil vacation. He is a mac computer consultant in a very artsy area (perfect for a mac consultant!) and I'll probably be talking to them tonight to get the "inside scoop" from someone who ISN'T a journalist. :)

My comments (in no particular order):

The Superdrive (rewriteable CD, rewriteable DVD) sounds cool.

The prices are high. $2200 for a 533MHz G4 w/ 128MB RAM and a 30GB HD is pretty steep. Even if you accept the arguement that a G4 is faster than an equivalently clocked IA32 chip, it's still pretty expensive.

The demo of a 733MHz G4 beating a 1.5GHz Pentium 4 is pretty pointless if they don't disclose the specs.

OS X looks nice. I wish they'd release it for the IA32 platform.

Thanks for the link, KDog.

Macs are still just too expensive. That new powerbook looks really slick, but it would cost me 700 $US less to buy a comparable model from Dell!

Both systems have 128 MB PC100 RAM
Mobile ATI graphics
10 GB Hard drive
DVD
NIC/Modem
Weight of 2.5 kg or less

the Apple has 400 MHz G4 and 15" WideScreen LCD
the Dell Inspiron 4000 has a 600 MHz P!!! and 14" LCD

Apple: $2700 (without case, lock, surge protector)
Dell: $1900 with case, lock, and surge protector

Which one do you think I'd buy?

I don't like macs, but I have to say that is one nice laptop. Too bad their prices are so high... I wish Dell or another manufacturer would make a laptop with a wide screen like that.

As for the new desktops, it was about time they came out with a g4 faster than 500 mhz, but they're prices are even worse than the laptops when you compare them to an equivalent PC. As for the rest, OSX and the superdrive are nice too.

It's just funny how they make those pointless comparisons, without ever telling people what were in the two systems except the cpu. (on mac-optimized programs too)

Jobs is hilarious, he must of said like 20 times "the world fastest..." in that little video.

Zippy, you need to relax. Its humor and I only put in up twice. I think you should heed you own advice "and grow up". And how in the hell can you say that mac is good for pc people! What competition are you talking about? There is no competition! Most of mac sales are from people who already have or only know mac(read, not many)! A person who never had a computer will 99.9% of the time go for a pc. What also pisses me off about macs is their new campaign "oooh....now macs can do video"...puhlease, PCs have done that for years. Christ, PCs even did that on windows 3.1.

By grow up I mean see the advantages to having a viable alternative. Yes, apple DOES compete with the PC- are you kidding me?! Do you realize how popular the iMac is? It's insane! A lot of first time computer users by iMacs.

<< A person who never had a computer will 99.9% of the time go for a pc >>

Probably closer to 75% nowadays- 25% (more maybe?) is a big share of the market for a single company (Apple that is).

<< And how in the hell can you say that mac is good for pc people! >>

On the same token, how the hell can you say a mac is bad for PC PEOPLE! :)

25% market share for apple? Uh...no...
I won't say apple is bad for the PC market, they don't do anything to harm it, I don't consider them much competition but at worse they are neutral. But they certainly don't have 25% market share. 10% tops.

25% share of FIRST TIME BUYERS, not total market share- their prices are too high for the performance, especially when you compare it to a similarly priced Athlon or P3 machine.

I have Apple's next ad campaign: "Yum."

Jesus H. Christ, they know how to make a sexy piece of computer. Those new laptops are as sweet as their G4 Cube. They might cost hella more than PCs, and their non-threaded OS might generally suck more than Windows, but they make some luscious-looking hardware.

LOL @ Pete

Personally I like my women "luscious-looking", I like my hardware functional and hopefully affordable. ;)
