It's no more of an issue on Android than on any other software stack. It's a given that when you buy some hardware running some OS, that progress of time does not magically stop and that future hardware and OS's will have capability to run things yours won't. Current iPad buyers won't be able to do video chat, but future ones will, FRAGMENTATION!!!

LOL, I think the Android fanbois have officially reached Apple fanboi levels of drama.

By Google releasing it's code into the wild, with multiple builds, and every manufacturer & their dog releasing Android devices, with 1.5, 1.6, 2.0, and 2.1 all selling at the same time, with custom skins on many that muddy up and delay the upgrade path, it's a fragmented OS.

Just wait till Flash is released on 2.1 or 2.2 only...

I am sure the users currently buying Android devices would rather take a fragmented 2.0, than have Android 1.5 until google does some annual upgrade to 3.0 next year. Let me put it this way, if this so called "fragmentation" is high on list of problems, Android is doing pretty well for itself.

Google may be releasing the code & versions, but the manufacturers and carriers are the ones responsible for the specific upgrades, another issue with fragmentation...

I've never said Android is a "bad" OS, I've used every version since 1.5, what I'm saying is that it's an issue and it confuses consumers, and limits it's adoption.

Frankly, it's getting more than a little stupid that so many threads devolves into an "us versus them" thread.

You indicated that Apple isn't forthcoming about Flash, despite it being carried on every media outlet I've seen, a federal inquiry, and the main page on Apple's website.

As I said, I think Android fanboisism is just as bad as Apple fanboism, it's getting pretty old, pretty fast.

They aren't forthcoming on the iPad page where they call it the best device for web browsing that it doesn't support Flash. I am not Android fanboi, but I am definitely not getting an Apple until it gets an attitude adjustment and stops dictating what programs I get to run on device I pay money for. I don't really care what OS it is as long as it renders the internet fine, which Apple's mobile OS doesn't. By FAR the most important application for me is a fully capable web browser.

Like Android? Oh yeah, it doesn't support Flash either.

Google Earth...

And the native apps that come with the OS, browser, gallery, etc...

So that's 2 apps that we've come up with....doesn't sound like that much of an issue to me.

And won't the native apps come with the 2.1 upgrade that is coming (and is already available if you want to go through other means...)

Steve brings up many good points about Flash.

In fact, I have FlashBlock installed specifically so my senses don't get bombarded by visually intrusive ads that either blink, flash, dance, pop up, or takes over your browser. Why would I want it on my phone too? :p

There are so many sites that used to be easy & pleasant to navigate which now look like shit cuz of overused crap running all over the place.
IMDB is the chief culprit.

I have to admit that I personally like the HTML5 changes to scribd.com better than the original Flash. It seems to work better/faster. There's usually a little bit of lag when I load a Flash page - even with my Core i7 920 - but this new HTML5 loaded super quickly and it seems more responsive.
