Steve Jobs has a hormone imbalance

A mere day before the big shindig at the Moscone, Steve Jobs has come clean about his much-discussed weight loss in a open letter to the Apple community, saying that a hormone imbalance is to blame. "The remedy for this nutritional problem is relatively simple and straightforward, and I've already begun treatment," says Steve. Doctors expect it to take him until late Spring to regain the weight and body mass, and Steve will stay on as CEO during his recovery. Oh, and if you hadn't guessed, Steve isn't so big on the personal stuff: "So now I've said more than I wanted to say, and all that I am going to say, about this."

Quite surprised that he actually said something about it. But glad that he did.

Well, when you're as public as a figure of Jobs, you don't really get to keep things like your health personal. Look at how the stock dropped when it was announced that he died (the fake story) and when it was announced that he wouldn't be at Macworld. The company is obviously depedent on him to some degree at the present time, which means that he has an obligation to share this information, despite not wanting to. But then again, you kind of have to aggressively pursue this level of visibility, so it's not like he didn't know what he was doing 😛

Somehow I'm not buying this. It sounds like something a rehab patient would come up with...

That explains the battle against msft getting so personal....steve jobs' hormones are kooky.....

too soon to joke?

I don't buy it. First of all, if it's not a big deal, then why didn't he come out sooner? Why is it that the last time he was actually in public, he looked like the walking dead. And now he's even worst, to the point where he can't even make public appearances? And this must have been going on for a long long time for him to waste away like that, so why is it he's only getting treatment now?

And what exactly is this 'hormonal imbalance' he has? What's it called? Can you get any more vague? Sure, it's a personal matter, but he's also CEO of a multi-billion dollar company, one that has seen shares price plummet on rumors of his health. So he has an obligation to be open about his health.

I don't get this at all. I think the chances of this story being true are very slim (Looney offers good reasons why), but Apple just outright lying seems like the sort of hyper-short-term thinking that has torpedoed so many companies over the past year. I mean, if they guy dies of cancer in 2 months the lawsuits from misled investors are going to fly. Maybe it's the tech industries Enron...time to short some stock?

It does sound kinda weird, like Jason Giambi's "parasite" a few years back. Do rich people make this stuff up, or is their medical care really so radically advanced compared to what Joe Average gets?
