Steve Jobs: Apple's greatest legacy or its biggest obstacle?

Unless it's someone who works with the man 24/7 and really understand everything about him, I don't think anyone can draw any conclusion about his being as a human.

What is true right now is that he makes great products that have great receipt from the general public. And the company under his leadership has been winning a lot lately financially.

It's just good business.

That's a real class article, it's pretty likely Jobs will be dead within the year, they need to leave the man alone.

While Jobs may be a public figure, it's really tasteless to pen this kind of crap.

Also, as intensely private as Jobs is with his business, he's even more so with his private life. As far as we know, he contributes to the causes he believes in, but then again, who cares, it's his life. If you want a role model, pick Nelson Mandella or Mother Theresa, etc...

Indeed. I don't get this kind of cheap two-cent gossip article that even has the nerve to label itself as a tech or business article. It's no different from those in magazines gossip moms pick up to read in their spare time while watching their favorite soap opera.

It's like those people that take jabs at celebrities' personal lives just so they can have something called news.

Didn't read the article, but had to comment on Jobs being an "Obstacle". WTF? It's only one of the most successful companies on the Planet over the last decade or so. Not bad given that Apple was slowly deteriorating to nothingness before Jobs took over.

Reading the first page of the article it reads like a 5th grader's book report. I couldn't get past page 1.

Filling Steve's shoes certainly will be an obstacle for Apple to overcome whether he passes away in the near term of (hopefully) retires at some point and passes the reins.

Can't read it now, but the fact that they're even questioning Jobs is absurd. Anybody who knows their PC history should know the history of Apple, and how Jobs was let go at one point and the company was nearly driven into the ground. When they got him back he helped them rally a bit with the colored imacs and then explode on the scene by moving on mp3 technology early. Everything since then has been quite successful as well with the help of ad campains and such. The man made that company, then saved them when they almost fucked it up without him. It doesn't matter what you think of him personally or the design of his products, it's absolute fact that he built that company into the giant that it is now.

Really? Based upon what facts do you have? Based upon what inkling do you have, even? You don't know this and shouldn't make statement of it.

This is a discussion forum, and all he said was it's likely... it's part of the discussion. You don't get to decide what we talk about. The man had cancer, has had numerous fluxuations in his health and recently had to take another health releated leave. It's not out of the realm of possibility and I personally think it's also likely.

Honestly - I don't see much wrong with the article. There are a million and one articles in a similar vein, many written by ex-colleagues and 'aquaintances (he doesn't seem to have many friends). By all accounts, Jobs is actually a bit of a 'dick'. Not a nice person to be around and not in the slightest interested in the welfare of others.

There are none to a few articles saying the opposite.

Does this make him any less brilliant at what he does? No! The evidence is there in black and white $$$$$$$$

And as the article concludes, its pretty much a trend amongst driven CEO's in a lot of the biggest corporations in the world. These are generally people who are successful for a reason - sure they are smart and know their market or whatever - but they will also shit on anyone who tries to get in their way.
