steroids?

so, this kid i knew from high school used to be about 6 feet tall and prob weighed around 240lbs. he was fairly strong, played football, but def. had some fat on him.

i hadn't seen him for a year until this past week i ran into him at the gym. he got HUGE. i'm talking absolutely enormous, prob around 300lbs.

the wierd thing is it's ALL muscle. or rather, he still has the fat from before, but packed on an unbelieveable amount of muscle on top of it. he was doing shrugs with a barbell and five 45lbs plates on each side (495lbs total!). DAMN.

now, i don't like jumping to conclusions, but seriously, how much muscle can a person put on naturally in one year? assume he's doing a very rigorous work out every day, eating a very high protein diet, and lets say even using legal supplements (creatine or whatever).

is it possible to put on THAT much muscle in one year w/o steroids?

Cliffs:

- in one year, kid puts on ~60lbs of muscle
- is that possible w/o steroids?

yes, it is possible. an extreme workout regimen along with a serious diet and supplements could get you there. he DEFINITELY took supplements (creatine probably), but not necessarily steroids.

Does it matter if he is using steroids?
Reminds me of the South Park episode where Jimmy is using steriods and starts beating up his gf of one week.

Jimmy: Come on, push it! Push it! [he pushes the weights onto the bar rest and sits up. He checks his musculature out in the mirror] Yeah. Nice p-pecs. Sweet b-biceps. [the door opens and Nancy enters]

Nancy: Jimmy, I thought we were meeting at the doughnut shop.

Jimmy: The Games are in two days, Nancy. I can't be w-wasting my time.

Nancy: I guess I didn't realize I was a waste of time.

Jimmy: Oh Jeez! [lays back down and takes up the weights] Are you gonna start running your mouth off again? [begins new reps] P-push it! Push it!!
Nancy: Jimmy, everyone's worried about you. You seem... different.

Jimmy: Theh-they're all just ..jealous.

Nancy: You're not the boy I fell in love with last week during Free Period. I'm leaving you.

Jimmy: [quickly rests the weights and sits up] You're not leaving me! You try to leave me and I'll kill you, bitch!

Nancy: You can't treat people like this!

Jimmy: [gets up and walks over to Nancy, then begins beating her with his crutches. She wails] I said, shut your mouth, bitch! Why did you make me do it, huh?! [he grabs her by the throat and throws her head against the floor a few times, then whacks her on the side of the head a few times.] You're not leavin' anybody!! You just keep your G-Goddamned mouth shut and do what you're t-t-t-uh-tol-told! [resumes beating her. His mom opens the door to see what's the matter]

Mom: What the? [tries to stop the beating] Jimmy, oh my God!

Jimmy: [throws his mother off and heads for the door] Stay away from me, you stupid bbbbitches! [walks down the hall, hits the walk with his right crutch, and breaks down.] No! God! [collapses on his back and bawls]

muscle doesn't turn into fat. your body doesn't convert one into the other, it's a myth.

but, if you don't work your muscles, they do shrink. which may make you look fatter. and, without muscles consuming calories (it takes a lot of energy just to maintain muscle), you may get even fatter with the same diet.

naturally putting on muscle is sort of easy in the beginning.

Maybe 2-4 lbs a month of muscle ... however, once you get to your basic 'build' limit, adding muscle is a hard road naturally. I'd say 1-2lbs a month max with a good diet and rest.

This is why people take steroids, plus is increases that 'basic build' limit a lot.

I guy i used to know in high school started buying steroid like his second year and i remember like a year later after the summer break he came back and he was built, his neck was huge! from then on they always refer to him as the 'steroid guy'

So i can see that happening.
