Oh really? I find MANY broadcasters (which I personally know) that find himstupid and talentless. HOWEVER that is not to say they wouldn't want his army of ears listening tohim on THEIR station.

Point being, he sucks, but the masses love him. Plebs.

I bet you're wrong - no broadcaster who has ever regularly listened to Howard is likely to consider him talentless (and as it happens I've held an FCC license since 1986). There's a reason he's been the most successful man in radio for 20+ years. Again, I don't pretend everyone enjoys his sensibility, but he's a tremendous talent. Even a lot of conservative mainstream broadcasters (e.g., Dick Clark, Bob Costas, Anderson Cooper, etc.) will readily admit he's one of the most gifted broadcasters extant.

Don't make the error of assuming that because you don't like something, that means that it "sucks." The numbers say that, in this instance, you're wrong.

Tale of two beavers. Seri and Xymer. both going after the trees in same forest

Seri took to the trees like a gonad in heat. he grinded and grinded. tree by tree.

Xymer thought things through a bit better. He went to other beavers who already had a bunch of trees down. he said let me join you, and we share the trees (auto makers). by the time seri got into that game it was too late.

seri seeing that he's losing out on the trees, got desperate. so he went out and bought a big ole saw. problme was he paid waayyyyy too much fo rthe saw.

time will tell whether the pay for the saw was fair game. but for now, it sure seems way out there - but maybe i'm not seeing the forest for the trees - or maybe seri isn't.

side note = howard would have gone for much less.

I find it amazing that someone with no apparent talent, other than vulgarity, can make that kind of cash.

Obviously you've never listened to the show. I understand it may not be your thing, but you won't find many broadcasters who won't, if they are being candid, agree he is among the most influential broadcasters in history. I personally find him hilarious, as do tens of millions of other Americans.
I have listened to him, and watched him on E at night. Mainly for the chicks at night. 😉

But no, Stern has no talent. I don't see how asking chicks to undress on the radio and getting stupid people to do stupid things on the air requires talent.

Maybe at some point before he got so big, Stern was funny and showed some talent as a broadcaster, but for a long time he really has done nothing but 8th grade boy's humor.

Yeah, but not 500 million. I can see people like Chris Rock, Andrew Dice Clay, etc., making a few million on crude comedy, but not to the extent that Stern does....that was my point.

See, I think you're confusing "Taste" with "Talent". I, too, once thought him crude and talent-less. I'm not sure what exactly made me change my mind, but as much ast he is crude, he has a talent in interviewing. Call it charisma, whatevre it is that interviewees find disarming, charming even.

If he was bereft of talent, advertisers wouldn't be paying what they did for Infinity ad time in the morning drive. Furthermore, the derivation of "Shock Jock" would never have flown. The market has eaten many other Jocks who tried and failed to emulate his "style".
I think you're giving the American Radio - Fed Consumer far too much credit. After all, this IS the country that brought you "THe Pet Rock."

Advertisers don't care whether he's talented or not; All they care is how many people are listening.

And you could be right, but other than being able to talk women out of their clothes on the air, I don't see any actual talent.
