Well i was wanting to get some new computer speakers for my computer, you may have seen my other post in hardware about getting the 5500's but i was thinking it would be alot better to just maybe spend a bit more and just get a receiver speakers and stuff. Would this be possable? like some 3.5 to whatever inputs the recever may have? Would i still have soround sound if it did work? And if so whats a good receiver/speakers? Any help is apreasheated.

Stay away from this guy 😉

I don't remember if I've seen you in Peripherals lately, but there are several recent threads in there to give you an idea of your options.

I have 400ish for now mybe more cence a system is way more upgradeable than 5500's that i was going to get eavn thow there not 400 bux.

BTW, I dont mean some big ass system maybe just a 2 speaker set up, whatever i can get for 400bux. Just wondering it it would be worth it becuse i would have 100 bux or so after the 5500s.

Building up a system over time would be a good way to get a nice system eventually.

For $400 you could get a pretty nice refurb receiver and a pair of bookshelf speakers.

You could get an entry level Onkyo receiver (or Yamaha, Pioneer, etc) and some JBL, Athena, or Infinity books shelf speakers.

For $429 shipped you can get two JBL E50's and an Onkyo TX-SR303.

Have any good ones in mind?

(Check out AVSforum for more advice too)

Something like a refurb onkyo 502 would be a good basic one for a receiver.

(I'm sure you've seen that and some other recommendations in the threads I linked to above)

For speakers, it would be great if you could go out and listen to some differet offerings to see what you like.

Local Best Buy / Circuit City / real HT store would give you some chances to demo some different stuff.

JBL/Klipsch at Best Buy

Infinity at Circuit City

At a local audio retailer, Paradigm should have some bookshelf speakers in your range.

Online you have some options too.
Ascend 170s
I'll mention the deal on AV123 ELTs again 😉
Axiom m3ti

EDIT: Polk R series goes on sale at outpost.com from time to time too. R50s on sale right now
