Stereo system audio cable questions...

My receiver has limited audio inputs:

1. Coaxial digital (1)
2. optical input (2)
3. Regular rca input (1)
4. Multichannel input

I have 3 things to hook up to the reciever:

1. Dvd player that has coaxial digital out, optical out and multichannel out

2. TV that has regular Rca output

3. Sirius satellite S50 with the home base with minijack or RCA (red and white plugs) out.

So the problem, is that if i hook up my tv to the rca inputs on the reciever than i don't have an input for the sirius satellite radio.

Is there a way to convert a minijack or standard rca audio (both of which can come out of the sirius radio but with 2 plugs) to a coaxial (single cable) input?

You can hook up one either the TV or the Sirius to the multichannel input.

Otherwise I would suggest getting a standard analog RCA input switch (it should be fairly cheap... like $15)

I just tried the multichannel input. It works fine except that i don't get any output from the subwoofer, but that is to be expected. Is there a way to split the signal from the RCA plugs (maybe just one of the 2 plugs) and send one to the subwoofer input to get some bass?

Yeah, you could split one of them and feed the sub, but that's going to screw up the balance of the inputs.

Maybe you could try two of these http://www.cablesforless.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=862 and feed the RCA inputs two lines. Just have a single device giving it an input at a time and that should work alright.

That's a good idea!

2 more questions:

1. what would happen if i forgot to only have one device feeding the input. Could that damage the receiver or either device?

2. Could i split each of them into 2 and then combine one from each to feed the sub?

I think it would be pretty tough to damage something that way.

You could try the splitting and feeding the sub. I'm not sure what kind of results you'd get from that.
