Stereo receiver power draw when not in use?

Do you think a stereo receiver draws alot of power when it's fully on, but not playing anything? I have an old 2x150w receiver that doesn't remember any settings when I turn it off such as input mode and vol, so it's really annoying to reset those when I turn it on, but would leaving it on all the time draw alot of power?

Yes they do take power when on, AFAIK amplifiers need a DC bias so that means it's sucking power even when idle.

read more here

"A 100 watt amplifier may dissipate nearly 100 watts internally even when there is no audio output. "

I think that's in reference to a class A amp. I should mention how much power wasted also depends on the amplifier design also.

not to be picky but that link is for car audio amps which are a whole different breed

A typical Class AB amplifier would hardly use anything with NO SIGNAL going through it. Even at FULL rated output, the power consumption is LESS than the listed MAXIMUM on the ratings plate. Those rating are NOT made with complex waveforms running through them, typically they use 1 Kilohertz sine waves. Music = Complex waveform.

Yessir and Most Musical Instrument / Pro Audio as well. AB = Push / Pull requireing a stage of amplification for each half of the sine wave.
