Stereo Receiver Fried Memory?

I recently had the unpleasant experience of two computers dying on me. One after the other. I troubleshooted both computers and came to the conclusion that I somehow fried the memory. 1gb (2x512) of pc3200 and 128(1x128) of some old pc133 on the other rig. I finally traced the problem to what I think is my stereo receiver I hook up to my computer. My theory and what I think caused the memory to be fried is that while switching between my headphones and stereo receiver, the metal part of the 2.5mm(?) audio jack touched the metal of the computer case and fried the ram. I guess the small electrical current from the stereo receiver went straight to the memory, killing it.

Does this sound logical? I also noticed, and im not sure if this is related, is a more blurry screen. Wondering if the current also hit my vid card.
