Anyone have a handgun in new york? I'm interested in purchasing a Glock from an online retailer (they ship to a local certified gun store where you pick it up) but I'm not really sure what paperwork I'd need to have in order to be able to legally own it... Can anyone fill me in?

sorry, you cannot have a handgun in NY. They are banned. You would need to get a special license, and you have a better chance of winning 200 million in the lottery.

you can start here though:

You serious? Do you mean to carry the weapon or to have it just in your house? I wouldn't want a license to carry it concealed or anything like that...

If that's true I'd go down to brooklyn and pick up some steel from a hoodlum.

Handgun, pistols and revolvers are banned in the state on NY. You need to apply for a special ID to buy one and get fingerprinted and you must register each and every handgun you have.

Handguns aren't banned in NY, they're just licensed. If you have a clean record and don't live in NYC, you can obtain a concealed carry permit if you go through the paperwork and BS. Checkout
PACKING.ORG or RANTPIPE.COM for all the info.

Yeap.. my unlce had to do that. He has a .40 cal and a revolver.

Cool story bout him:
He got in an argument with an (under cover) police officer over the traffic she was holding up talking with her buddy on 5th and 67st in manhattan and spent 3 nights (fri, sat, sun) in the slammer. He got released and charges were dropped (because every witness attests that the undercover cop started the fiasco, when she spilled his coffee on him and cause the whole traffic trouble anyhow)

The city took his guns away for 8 months. But he is glad he's not in PMIDAP :)

Why do they bother with banning guns? Why don't they just make a law that bans shooting people?

They aren't going to repeal it. They are simply not going to renew it. It was a test to appease the liberal left, and the test showed that assault weapon crime didn't change at all as a result of the ban. It probably won't be renewed. That means AR15s with foward p grips, flash supressors and collapsable stocks again! Huzzah!

Yep. The assualt weapons ban was a useless and pointless ban on weapons based NOT on mechanical differences, but aesthetic ones.

The ONLY difference between your average "assault weapon" and the average hunting rifle is the "assault weapon" will have a pistol grip stock, and a flash suppressor. Both are mechanically identical.

Who is "they"? You do realize that the AWB was passed in 1994, right?

I though reps controlled congress in 94'?

BTW they passed two major pieces of legislation "Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act" , which is the background-waiting period and 10 round ammo stuff. And the "Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act " aka AWB.

Every other piece of feederal gun regualtion was passed under repulican presidencies even.

1968- Gun Control Act
1972- BATF
1986- Law Enforcement Officers Protection Act and Firearms Owners' Protection Act
1990- Crime Control Act

All I'm saying is "left wing" my ass. Dean is more pro-gun than Bush.
