Some guy was selling a PIII 700 Coppermine and he doesn't know what stepping it was (i.e. cA2,cB0..)

This is the info he gave me: SL3XX

Can some techies out there tell me what this is and if it is a good overclocker?

It's an OEM cB0 FC-PGA. It potentially can be a good overclocker, especially if it's made in Malay. :) Beware though, it may have alread been tested and the results may not be what you want. :D The s spec for cB0 OEM FC-PGA is SL3XX

Definitely no guarantees regarding overclocking.

I have a SL3XX and I can't get it past 868mhz. I've tried it on four motherboards, and that's the best I could get.

On the other hand, I had a P3-600e (cA2) that easily did 138mhz fsb.

Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. ;)

WIngznut - I had the same problem and found out it was my slocket. I had an Abit slocket III and changed it to a IWill slocket II and went from 868 to 980.

The 600E cA0s are really good overclockers, back then they were almost guarranteed to hit 133MHz.

I'm not using a slocket. I'm not that concerned. It just appears that I didn't get so lucky this time.

I tried it on four different boards, got the same result from each (with the exception of the Abit SE-6, which wouldn't even do 840mhz stable.)

I have two of these one will run at 933 Mhz but crash during 3mark 2000, and will only run 100% stable at about 900 Mhz. The other will only run at 810 max. Tried both with different slockets (Iwill, Gigabyte etc), Alpha Heatsink and silver compound.
