Take a look at the picture of a 2100+
here.
The core is labeled as follows...
AX2100DMT3C
AGOIA0205UPHW
Y7729920511
Now, I will try to explain the relevant info that you will need to know when trying to understand the stepping and when it was made..
Let's take the first line first...
AX2100
The "AX" signifies it is an Athlon XP core. The 2100 signifies what model it is...a 2100+ in this case.
Now, let's look at the second line...
AGOIA0205
You get two very important things from this line...the stepping and when the CPU was made. The stepping is the first five letters in the second line...in this case..it's an
AGOIA stepping. The next set of four numeric digits tells you when the CPU was made. The first two digits are the year it was made and the second two are the week it was made. Since this CPU is labeled "0205", that means it was manufactured in the 5th week (05) of 2002 (02).
The only thing people look at on the last line is the first digit, in this case a "Y". Some people think this letter signifies how well the core will o/c, but I've never seen any proof that it really matters. You may hear someone say they got an "AGOIA-Y" stepping or something similar. When they say this, they are referring to the letter in the last line.
I'm haven't seen any detailed explanation of what the other letters and numbers mean, but from my experience it is fairly irrelevant.
I hope this helps...
