Does the box for our trusty P4's tell us the stepping of the chips, if so where can I check mine. Sorry for a dumb question just one of those things I didnt know.
There are no dumb questions You should be able to tell the stepping by checking the s-spec on the box. Also known as specification number. A five character string (SL36W, XL2XL, etc.) that is printed on the processor and the box. The s-spec will tell you the processor's stepping, core speed, cache size and speed, core voltage, maximum operating temperature and so on intel site - sSpec info and pics
