finally after years of jealousy canada is finally getting it's own patriot act.

f passed, the government's Anti-Terrorism Act will:
  • Lower the threshold of proof for arrests.
  • Give Canadian Security Intelligence Service the power to "counter-message" or "disrupt radical websites and Twitter accounts," whether in Canada or elsewhere.
  • Allow CSIS to apply for a court order to remove terrorist propaganda from the Internet.
  • Allow for some court proceedings to be sealed.

we even get secret courts

just like our american cousins.

all we need now is for him to directly quote duhbya and say "they hate our freedoms, so we took them away"

nvm he did

Canadians, he said, "are targeted by these terrorists for no other reason than that we are Canadians. They want to harm us because they hate our society and the values it represents."
"Every time we talk about security, they suggest that somehow, our freedoms are threatened. I think Canadians understand that their freedom and their security more often than not go hand and hand. Canadians expect us to do both, we are doing both, and we do not buy the argument that every time you protect Canadians, you take away their liberties."
this is epic.

just look south you dingbat and you'll see freedoms eroding away with the security measures put in place!

Terrorism is the gift that keeps on giving to people who like invasive government. Use it as an excuse for anything.

Based on what you show us in the forum I doubt you'd be happy here. After all, we have lots of these people living here:

I know I'd be pretty angry about all of those extra "u"s in words, like that sign in the mosque that says "love your neighbours"". I'm getting pretty emotionally caught-up and enraged over it as I type.

You Americans really should get back to 'proper' spelling. ():)

I do not agree. Like it or not, Canada does have a role in the "west" and globally. Granted it isn't as big as the USA but to pretend it doesn't exist is just stupid. Why should our government not do what it can to protect its citizens? Have any Canadian citizens received anything punitive as a result of these measures to protect? Will they? If so what?

And remember that it was just a few months ago that Canada had an active shooter inside the hill.

Specifically what freedom are you losing with these measures?

One (failed) attacker in the last how many years means we should give up our rights for the illusion of safety now? What are they protecting us from?

Are you worried ISIS is going to take over Canada?
Should we monitor all Hindus since they were responsible for our biggest terrorist action?

lol no. not in the least. But I don't see why we have to live with our heads in the sand pretending the world is happy-go-lucky and Canada doesn't have any enemies.

Do you think a lot of Canadians are just blissfully unaware that there are bad people out there?

no, not at all. But I think it is irrational to oppose the increase preventative measures when there is a very clear case to do so, especially when it is so vastly supported by the population.

You seem to be making the assumption that I'm some kind of extremist or party hack. FWIW, I've voted for every major party, including Green at some point, and I'm sure I will again. I provide my support to the agenda that, in my opinion, best serves Canada. Honestly, I'm not a huge Harper fan though I have voted for him too. It's a tough time to be a fiscal conservative/social liberal in Canada.

I don't know anybody who supports this, did Harper say something to the effect that it is vastly supported?

lol you know all Canadians? Hey, I'm not saying everyone needs to support it. If you don't support it I encourage you to write your MP and tell him. Go outside and protest. Make your voice heard. But if you oppose it just make sure that you know why.

Of course I don't know all Canadians, I thought that would be obvious and would not need to expressed.
Where did you get your vastly supported statement from?
Is there a way that protest will shut this down?

This is the same attitude a lot of Americans had post 9-11. Now 14 years later we have a security state that monitors every call, every post, every email. We have an executive branch that is judge, jury, and executioner. And a police force emboldened by the war on terror that can literally get away with murder.

Be careful for what you wish.
