Step up from NEX-5?

I'm wondering if I should, especially as the way I use all three of the cameras I now own are rendering it somewhat redundant at the lower focal lengths.

I'd really like an EVF, I'd like to take a step up in terms of image quality to make a clearer distinction between this and the rest of my cameras.

Having said that, the NEX gets the lowest use time out of all my cameras, don't think that will change and I don't want to spend thousands. Previously my reason for choosing the NEX was the combo of sensor and size, but I've since discovered that when I make the effort to pack the NEX, I'm usually not that space-constrained and I end up using it like a DSLR anyway.

If I move on from the NEX I realise I'll have to re-buy lenses, but once again I found that I don't actually use the ~200mm range at all, so I'm happy starting with a ~16-80 and re-evaluate the way I use.

Or, there's the NEX-7. While it delivers missing features on the 5 that I really do want and allows me to keep my lenses, I'm not sure it's a big enough progression and feel that I will get more bang for the buck by going SLR.

The other factor though is that I am a 'set it and leave it' guy and I rarely venture outside of auto, unless it's a camera with extremely usable, directly accessible manual controls like the Leica X1 - so unless there's a similarly accessible budget DLSR, I'd rather go with one that's smart shooting in full auto.

I'm looking at the SLT-A65 as a candidate. What sez the herd?

What are your other cameras and why do you use them over your NEX.
What features in the NEX7 do you wish your NEX5 doesnt have?
What's the point of DSLR if you want t set it and forget it over your NEX?
Is the NEX5 lacking the IQ you feel you can get from the SLTA65 in auto mode?

I'm not really sure what you want or looking for?
You dont want to leave your existing NEX package? If you do, it may be for the NEX7 for features you didn't list.

You might be better off with high end point and shoot?

Leica X1, Canon S90. Reasons should be obvious given above - P&S.

I've already listed that.

IQ?

This is in effect part of the question I'm asking.
