Step counter and weight loss...

Went to the doctor today and he recommend that I get this thing that I wear around my belt that somehow counts my steps. Any idea where I can get one? Supposedly I'm supposed to walk 10,000 steps every day. Anyone ever do this before?

Concerning what to eat, he gave me four choices:
1.) Learn - go to a class or something one day a week
2.) Dietitian
3.) Take drugs
4.) 5 milkshakes a day

Now, personally I'd rather go with the first two simply because they sound traditional and won't have any side effects. The drugs sound like a lazy way out and the entire purpose of trying to lose weight is to get me more motivated and to quit being so damn lazy. The milkshakes I think he was talking about sounded interesting because it'd drop my 3000 calorie a day standard down to 800 but if I go off the milkshakes and went back to eating what I'm eating now, it's likely I'd gain it back. It's also sort of expensive ($64 a week) and he said I may develop gull stones :Q. Now that's one thing I've heard nasty fvckin' things about so no way would I do the milkshake idea.

The biggest bummer for me is I won't be able to drink anything I like anymore. No fruit drinks or anything. WTF? What's there to drink then? I know soft drinks are out of the question so what's that leave it to, just water and milk? Fvck that. If there's one thing I'll violate, it'll probably be the drinking aspect.

What's the most common and/or successful option here? I'm hesitant to take the drugs simply because I'm not a firm believer in them but what's your opinion?

How much overweight are you?

I would go with 1 and possibly 2. You need to learn how to eat.

This is a lifelong issue. 3 and 4 are not lifelong solutions.

i would go with 1 or 2...

i usually try to limit myself to < 2000 cals a day, as the body usually burns that much just by everyday living... it's not a fast weight burner or anything, but slowly but surely it gets your weight down...

and don't forget a scale in the bathroom, weigh yourself every morning to see your progress...
