Just picked up 8 bottles of 1997 vintage for $3.99/bottle. Figured I couldn't go wrong for the price.

Anyone tried this wine or is familiar with this vintner?

Hmm, 8 bottles for $3.99? *shudders* Don't expect too much out of it. (I don't know crap about wine except at that price, it probably tastes like grapes mixed with urine)

It normally sells for over $20 a bottle so I figure it probably shouldn't be too bad.

Found this on the 2000 vintage:

Wine: Chardonnay Carneros Sangiacomo Vineyard 2000
Score: 90
Price: $28
Country: California

Region: Carneros

Issue: Feb 29, 2004

Add to Wine List

Creamy and elegantly styled, with a flash of smoky oak leading to ripe pear, apricot, honey and vanilla flavors, finishing with a rich core of flavors and delicate notes. Drink now through 2007. 500 cases made. (JL)

Hoping that the 1997 bottles are still good.

1997 is getting up there for a white, but Steele can do no wrong IMHO. Their Zin is one of my favorite wines.

Century Liquor in Rochester, NY.

The sometimes have good deals in the bargain bin.

I picked up 3 bottles yesterday and when I went back today there were only 5 left so I grabbed them.

Yeah, 1997 is pushing it. I'll crack open a bottle tonight and see if it's still good.

That's a good point. They might have kept the bottles on a heater vent or something :) Might have a bunch of bottles of vinegar there heheh.

They had 1996 vintage there too, but I grabbed up the 1997's.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

The cork was dried out and it crumbled when I opened the bottle. Wine tastes fine though.

I'm glad I got the '97 rather than the '96.

I'm going to work on finishing it off soon. It's good, but I'm glad I didn't pay $30/bottle.
