SteamCloud, how does it work?

Can anyone think of a reason why SteamCloud isn't working for me? I have a torchlight save in Windows, and I cannot access it in OS X. I don't want to have to start yet another character just because SteamCloud isn't working.

Are you sure mac supports the steam cloud?

That was one of their big bullet points. That you could take the game you were playing in Windows, and when you boot back into OS X, continue where you left off.

However, I thought it was supposed to be automatic, and I have had to restart many a game due to a lost save (reformat, hard drive failure, that sort of thing).

Well, in this case, torchlight does use steam cloud on both sides. It's just that, as of right now, your PC save will not sync to a mac and vice versa.

Yea, I didn't know that half of the equation. I knew that they used SteamCloud, and I knew that a big 'selling' point for Valve was that SteamCloud would allows cross-platform saves. I didn't know that Torchlight didn't allow cross-platform saves.

Oh well, I really wasn't too crazy about my PC character anyway, was just hoping to see if I could get this SteamCloud thing to work.

However, as an aside, is it an automatic thing like I think? If I make a save, does it just upload it and connect it to my account?

Yea, steam cloud is completely automatic. Everytime you exit a game, provided you're connected to the net, it'll automatically upload your save.
