I downloaded LA Noire through Steam and every time it gets to the scene of arresting Edgar Kalou, the game freezes and shuts down.

Is it a problem with Steam or something else?

Why would it be a problem with Steam, the game manager? It's obviously a problem with either the game or a driver of some kind.

Right-click the game in Steam, go to properties, Local Files tab, verify integrity. When it completes, do it again.

Then launch the game and try again.

That's definitely very odd. LA Noire was completely stable when I played it.

As mentioned above, verify integrity of the game cache. That should always be the very first thing you do anytime you have any kind of problem in a Steam game.

I will try that. It worked and then it did a patch update and it started doing that.

If that doesn't work, any other advice?

I did the integrity and it uninstalled the game and started installing again so I can't do anything for about 6 hours with steam.

LA Noire does not even launch for me on Windows XP. Every time I get this .NET just in time debugger exception over and over again...

Never seen anything like it, out of my catalog of games, each works fine, except this one...

Usually when it finds something wrong it re-downloads the affected files. I'm assuming he's seeing that and mistaking it for a complete re-download of the game.

I had flawless experience myself luckily (Win7 Pro 64)... but I got maybe 5-6hrs in and just quit playing. I loved the environment and idea, but thought it was poorly executed.

That's a good point. The GTA games were pretty awful though.
