On steams web page it doesnt recognize my email as an account?

I had this happen, turns out my account was stolen and then they cheated on my account causing my account to be VAC2 banned. Steam took 3-4 months to recover the account and refused to reverse the VAC2 ban....

Wow, that really sucks.

Same goes for you too, OP.

So you can't play any online games then?

Well, fortunately, that account had minimal of games, so I have sort of abandoned it mostly. But I tend to steer away from Steam games when I can.

They fixed it took less than 24 hours, and i had to take pictures of CDs and CD keys. Here is some of the final message:

"It appears as though your account may have been hijacked by another user."

I've got more than 50 games in my Steam account. If I were to lose it or they decided to limit it in some way I would be extemely upset.

It's good to know, though, that if someone hijacks my account I can get it back by providing digital photos of some of the games that I actually have a physical copy of, like Half Life 2 and the Orange Box.

Yeah, thanks for updating us KeypoX. It was already pretty generally understood, but nonetheless it's reassuring to hear these things on a more local level now and then :)

You bought your Steam games Retail which helped but for us that bought directly off Steam would probably be screwed.

A lot of pro-Steam users on here say that not having to have the CD's is a plus, since they often lose them. Guess they're totally fvcked if their accounts get hijacked. Did Customer Support offer any other way to prove that it's your account?

They did not, they also expected me to have a digital camera to take pictures. Until about 2 hours ago i only owned 1 steam game HL2, which i got for $0.99 a long time ago on some hot deal.

But now that i have it back and i just bought orange box, i cannot run games. They try to launch but they dont.

Google turned up many many people with the same issue. Tired some solutions: deleted clientregistry.blob, launch with -window and going to try to reinstall soon.

Isn't there a backup tool included with Steam?

Edit: Yep. File -> Backup

Looks like you can even back them up to a CD.

deleted and re downloaded and reinstalling steam sorta fixed it.

IF i click my mouse during the intro screens it locks up. But at least it works now.

still pointless for most, the whole point of steam is to have no physical copies

everything I have on steam is bought on steam and basicly for me its the only way for me to spend money on games

but after reading quite a bit on steam support I'm starting to favor Impulse over Steam
