They didn't "rip" it, they employed the guy who did the d2 music.

and its identical to the Diablo music, aka, he ripped it from that game and transplanted it to this one. He didn't have to recreate it as he made it for another game and took it from there to put in this one.

Has anybody played Runic's older Fate series? I'm afraid to try as you have to download some bloated software just to play them.

I played it for a while--the free version. Very repetitive and pointless, so stopped after several levels. I picked up torchlight yesterday, and yeah--this is as close to Fate as you can get. not sure how long I'll keep at it...

but I never fully installed Fate b/c of the ridiculous bloat that came with it. took forever to get that crap out of registry; not sure if it was ever completely removed, to be honest...

A friend has Fate for his Macbook and after playing a bit, I thought it would be a fun little Diablo clone to play from time to time. I was thinking about getting the most recent expansion "A Traitor's Soul" (which includes Fate and Undiscovered Realms).....until I saw that WildTangent was involved.

I couldn't find anything definitive about whether WT was still churning out software that is deemed adware/spyware or if they've turned over a new leaf. It seems every article/blog/post that I read was either labeling WT as spyware due to the company's past or stating that the only things that the software does is check for updates and log some system configuration parameters. So Fate really does install some sort of spyware and/or adware?

riiiiight. Now I remember. It was Wild Tangent that caused the big stink on my system. I liken it to Real Player. WT was absolute adware when it was running on my system. Spybot and Adaware recognized it 100% of the time, and called it "serious risk," so I would zap it, which would then brick Fate. Leaving WT on would cause random havoc in FF.

I think the only thing that ever removed it (for me, anyway), was a complete reformat. I'm no techie, so I tend to employ the big red button quicker than most. :D

"Avoid anything that has the Wild Tangent name attached to it" is my mantra. I don't know if they've turned a new leaf, as you inquire, but it pissed me off enough to write them off in perpetuity.

for what it's worth... ;)

Look for "TorchLeech", it lets you search and install mods and then enable/disable them. Worked fine with my Steam install.

Yeap. Torchleech is the best.
Sadly Ive been burned out on TL for some time.
I need more maps and levels.

That and Ive found I ruin games like this (Titan Quest etc) when I install mods that allow for unique drops only... Then I can't play without it and playing with it I lose the "Excitement"
Lose-lose.

My torchlight install is fubared and i cant get it working. I played the game on my home computer for several hours. I then installed steam on my netbook and played it on there. Now when I go back to my desktop to play it, the torchlight.exe file crashes. I've uninstalled, removed everyfile from %appdata%/runic, reinstalled, and still it crashes on startup. I've tried it in safe mode.. nope, it crashes.. GRRR...
