Game and DLC are all 75% off. There is a pack with all the dlc and game for more savings. Demo of the game is on Steam as well.

Damn, it's sad to hear so many people pirating Machinarium. Come on people, cough up five dollars and help support indie developers.

Bought it GSB on this steam deal a couple of days ago.

Played a couple of games, it seemed alright. I'll get back to it once my month on STO is up.

I tried Machinarium and didn't like it. The puzzles were usually too difficult and required a very long time to figure out. Sure you could cheat by playing a little minigame and finding the solution, but where's the fun in that?

Worth 5 bucks from your experience so far? Am tempted, but I also kind of like the resource gathering and build up to the unjustified space battles. :)

I only completed the tutorial and first mission on Easy mode just before I went to bed that night so no idea really.

It looks pretty cool in the fact that you design your own ship templates (weapons, engines, shields, defense systems etc) then organise your own mix of ships to fight against an enemy force. Pre-customised tactics too.

It's pretty queer but I can see it being rather fun for the bargain basement price.

Went ahead about bought the collectors edition. For 6.24 or whatever, even if it's only 2 or 3 hours worth of entertainment, should be worth it.

I bought Gratuitous Space Battles a few months ago, then eventually I got two of the three expansions, it's fun, I recommend it to anyone who likes space battles, obviously.

Very tempting. Played the demo and had fun but now with SC2 out, I'm probably set for awhile but $6 seems like so little.

Looked pretty cool so I picked up the Collector's Edition for the $6. I have quite a bit of other games to play, but for $6, screw it.

Alright folks, I've had a chance to play GSB, and I have to say that I LOVE it. It is a niche game, however, and its target audience are the people who loved customizing Mechwarrior loadouts before a fight. That's me, so I fell in love with this game.

It really is addictive, and if I'd known how fun it was beforehand I would've gladly paid $20. You can get your money's worth of replayability and fun out of downloading user-created fleets and fighting them. They're generally tougher than the single-player missions.

Essentially, it's a puzzle game. You're matched against an enemy fleet and need to determine how to beat them, ideally with the weakest force you can field. It might be strong on cruisers with tough shields, weak armor, and short-range weaponry. So, you change your own cruiser loadout to utilize Mk. XIV Shieldbreaker Plasma Uber Neutron cannons, boost the engines so they can better stay out of enemy range, and equip your fighters with Mk. III anti-armor rockets and have them attack the enemy cruisers from within their own shields.

You get the idea.

After the battle, there's a TON of stats that can be manipulated in a bajillion ways, so you can determine exactly how much damage Fighter Squadron 'Reaper' did to an enemy cruiser, what percentage of shots hit, how many shots were ineffective due to enemy armor, etc. Then you tinker your loadout and try it again.

There isn't a campaign yet - that's coming later this year, I think. The SP game consists of a whole bunch of pre-made missions to get through, that unlock newer, different ships, new races, weapons, armor, mods, etc.

Anyway, if you like the idea of waffling over using a .24 fire interval beam laser vs. a long-range megaton launcher with decoys, then get this game. It's one of the BEST in its category (actually I can't think of any others!). It's also great to be supporting an indie dev who's very active on both the Steam and his own forums.

Ok, I'm pumped now. I'd just heard about the upcoming Campaign mode and the dev (one guy) already has screenshots up. Check it out:

My favorite part is that you're not fighting pre-determined fleets; you're actually fighting other players' fleet setups that I assume get downloaded periodically. AWESOME.

Check it out if you can, and if you enjoyed creating ships in MOO, you'll absolutely love GSB.
