Steam vs Retail pricing...get with it steam(possible rant)

I didn't think Steam prices were that bad at all but I didn't shop around a ton either; convenience wins me over rather that spending a few bucks less.

I dunno what GFWL and YuPlay are but I've never seen them on Steam (37 games)... must be game specific?

Steam is alright, I only used it for HL2 ,TF2 and their valve games. I'm a guy who likes to own hard media vs digital.

Yeah, games like for example GTA4, DoW2, Batman AA all use GFWL. You need to make an account (basically it is Xbox Live tie in for the PC) and have to log into that account to play the game. The game isn't tied to the account but you are required to log into the account still, double fucking worthless.

Which is stupid but Steam has nothing to do with that. They just sell the games. What`s inside the game they have nothing to do with.

You need to realize too that the steam delivery system puts in the game in your lap in a few hours.. you don't have to leave your chair to go purchase a game or wait a few days for it to be shipped. At some rate it's a cost of convenience.

Yup, don't have to worry about Missing or Damaged Disks or even if you're using your Computer, or that your at Home, or even in the same Country, or the same Continent, Hell, one day you could be on another Planet and still Play the Games you bought off Steam.

Wouldn't be a problem. Something that's doable now, we just haven't the Technology(quite close) to actually Live their yet.

This rant should be "Why don't publishers lower the prices of DD games versus retail by $5 or so since they don't have the extra costs of printing discs/manuals and shipping boxes?"

no that was his interpretation of my post.

i just was more or less asking or surveying any thoughts about the price differences from retail products vs there steam counterparts. and that i wish they were less in price because i would love to have them on my steam account vs waiting for the retail which requires more effort on my part. As for example, finding discs(making sure there not scratched),locating cd-keys if needed,installing,then patching
the price differences were enough for me to decline a purchase for many games. I do not want to have discs scattered about my room and plus dont we all love to spend less?

As has been said, Steam doesn't' set the prices.

i never said steam/valve made the prices. I commented about how much they were on steam. thats all. and yes if a game was 40 retail and 45 steam, id pay the extra money, but were not talking 5-10$ were talking 20+ or more.

What are you talking about with this activation?

I haven't had a single problem playing mods on steam. The mod that you're trying to play is probably extremely outdated and not compatible with some update that they've made to the game.

I'm also guarunteed to have my CE on the day Retribution is released. I know CR did not allow me to unlock and start downloading until 11pm on release day here so I'm pretty much golden.

FWIW, CE contains all 6? different pre-order packs plus a few tidbits that can't be downloaded eletronically.

Steam prices in the UK are an utter joke unless the game is on minimum 50% sale, and even then Steam can still be more expensive even with 50% off than other sources (e.g. Amazon, Play).

Yeah I agree. Heard of even worst problems when people who live in Japan buy games from Steam

If you ask me Valve just doesn't like other countries or something. It is really odd. Wish I could find out who controls this aspect.
