Back when I had a 9800 GT I was able to play console ports relatively smoothly (that is, matching the usual 30 FPS of consoles) at 1080p with a few extra bonuses, like full 16x anisotropic filtering (most console games lack even that, settling for low-quality AF or even just trilinear filtering).

The 8800 GT/9800 GT was just a dang good card, really.

don't most knowledgeable people (enthusiasts) opt out of these surveys?

Huh?

I am curious to know the reason why one would make a effort to opt out? Seems like this is the type of statistical info most enthusiasts would enjoy to know...?

What settings? 1024x768 @ maximum ugly @ 30FPS (barely)?

Actually I just retired a 9800 GT a few months ago running at 1440 x 900. I could play almost every game at medium to high, although I didnt play BF3 or some of the other really graphically intense games. I actually think my stock E4500 was limiting in a lot of games like Skyrim.

I was using a 9600gt when I started playing The Secret World in January. I think I ran at 1280x960 (or something like that) at max ugly and kept at 30-50 FPS. Playable, to be sure. I did decide I wanted things to look a bit better and upgraded in February to one of those popular 7850s.

Some of us don't like it when companies want to map down every single detail of what we have on our PCs

Count me as another one whose card isn't showing up, its reading my HD 3000 instead of my 6970.

The rest of us don't live our lives in paranoia.

Amen.

It's freaking data. You think there's some maniacal Steam dev looking for personal details somehow in whether you have an Intel or AMD processor?

This stuff is only useful in the aggregate...

I'm not suprised with 670 outselling the 7950. If you go to anywhere besides AT, Nvidia is still highly favored.

I'm more surprised with the 680 being above the 7950. Probably due to its poor performance at launch.

I'm really surprised at 670 being the highest from this generation. I expected the midrange cards to be king.

It still may shortly considering the gains by the GTX 660ti and GTX 660 the last 6 months.
