Steam use concerning patches...

I am getting all my games from Steam now, digital downloading is GREAT! Makes gaming much more affordable even if you get a DUD now and then...

That said, if a game has a patch come out and it is a Steam game, how do you obtain the patch?

Umm...Steam automatically downloads the patch for your game. If the game is installed in your library, and you didn't set it to not auto update, it'll get it automatically.

I'll have to check that, it always says looking for updates but I don't ever see that anything has been downloaded...

You need to right click on a game and see what its update setting are.
I think theres also a global setting somewhere.

Look at TF2, it seems to update almost every day.. Probably adding hats

If it's an optional (unofficial) patch (Max Payne had audio issues on many PCs), you can usually find those on the steam forum related to the specific game.

I have discovered that Steam will ignore this WRT Skyrim.

haha, yeah I hate that. I don't even play the game but it seems like about every 5th time I launch Steam TF2 starts updating..
