I usually download games from steam at about 1.4Mb but now I am around 300k (trying to download mirrors edge). Is anyone else have slow steam download speeds?

Bought mirrors edge, earlier it was at 1.4m/s (got Riddick:DA as well) then dropped to like 30k/s towards the end...

I experienced that on BF. Give this a try, worked for me after 6 hours at 48k...

1. In Steam, go to File > Settings > Downloads
2. Change download region to someplace else close to you and click Apply
3. Restart Steam
4. See if DL speed is faster. If not...
5. Go back to the Download settings and switch back to the original server
6. Restart steam

Sounds stupid, but I went back to my normal 2m/s after this process.

Steam is well known for being slow. I remember had to use it to play Half Life 2 and it was a nightmare.

My average download speed from steam is 2.5Mb/sec... if that is slow i don't know what slow is

Steam's servers are probably just being stressed from all the extra workload from the sales.

Dont think you are talking about Steam, the digital distribution network. Probably Steam, the evaporating water stuff.

Steam can continually give me 2MB/s download speed on normal operating days. On days where there is a sale or Steam have allowed pre-purchase of a game then if I attempt to download there can be quite a slowdown, knocking me down to perhaps 30kb/s.

FWIW, I was also getting very slow speeds while downloading Mirror's Edge.
