that analogy was prolly a little over your head. keep up the simpleminded steam hate

Ooh, an Internet tough guy!

No comment on his "Steam IS PC gaming" statement.

I see.

Keep up the simple-minded Steam fawning.

To get back on topic, how long does the KOTOR deal last?

Don't mind him, he feels out of place when he's not incessantly posting multiple times a day about World of Warcraft in the sticky thread with those other weirdos.

$6 and some change for the Ghostbusters game.

It's definitely a good price! The game's a lot of fun. Beat it already on PS3 but I can't pass up $6 when the disc versions are still going for four or five times that. Too bad it's taking forever to download. Arghh. :p

And yes, Steam does kick butt. It's taken the hassle out of PC gaming IMHO.

I don't know much about business, but if they announced that "special sales" and "deals" would happen about one or two weeks in advance without necessarily telling exactly what will be on sale then at least consumers could prepare their finances accordingly "just in case"
This is a tricky proposition because if consumers expect a price reduction in the future they will be less likely to purchase today, and money today is worth more than money tomorrow (time value of money). At the same time, Valve wants to avoid giving a price break to somebody who was going to purchase at a higher price anyway (marginal cost of "sale" prices). As a result you have two fairly strong reasons not to advertise specific deals too far in the future. That's why you have all the attempts at secrecy around even supposedly obvious sales like Black Friday where everybody expects certain items to be on sale.

Fundamentally, this Steam sale is about impulse buys and I think it's a pretty good idea overall. Torchlight at $5 was probably a mistake (pure conjecture on my part) but if you look at most of the titles people are posting they are most likely not anything that the person would have purchased ever at the current non-sale prices.

On a side note, events like this sale are an excellent illustration of just how great the potential for digital distribution is for consumers. Max Payne 1 & 2 were pretty great action games and they are available together for $3 something - much less than it would cost to a company to simply give them to you for free once you factor in burning to CDs and shipping. Whatever you think about Steam or DRM there are huge benefits to innovations that allow costs to be lowered and as digital distribution matures in the future there is every reason to be optimistic as a consumer.

Off topic but I didn't want to make a new thread.

What is the official site that shows how many people are playing Steam games at any one time, is it gametracker?

Thanks

I bought tons of crap, all on sale.
Have been having lots of fun with Kings Bounty and the sequel.

They're like a 3D Heroes of Might and Magic, but not the crappy Heroes 4 or 5. They have the fun of Heroes 3, with graphics much better than 5. You cant have too many units at one time, but the dragon pet MORE than makes up for it.

Theres a demo if you arent sure you'll like it. But I think any fan of TBS will enjoy themselves.

HOLY CRAP!
I was playing Kings Bounty for over 5 hours!!
I need a life.

In my opinion this game is better than HoMM3/5 and has got almost 0 recognition.

Armoured Princess, the expansion is evilly hard even on easy mode. I am seriously struggling there.

Heh, I love how the sales today were god awful... then I look back and the sales got super awesome. In fact, Crysis+Warhead wasn't even on sale at first and now it's 66% off.

Just added Crysis Ultimate (mostly for modding, likely the only "game" over $10 that I'll buy) and Half-life: Source.

Add Crysis Max to the list for me. Wife is going to kill me when she see's how many games I bought myself.

Yep I just hopped on Crysis since I haven't played it yet. Too much damn money spent. I think I spent more than last year.

Oh shit!
Armored Princess is the expansion? I thought it was the core game. Was wondering why I kept getting my ass handed to me.
I have tons of money, but cant seem to keep my armies up. When they get killed off its always a long trek back to the handful of places I know I can replenish them at.
Maybe I should just use small groups of the more powerful monsters, like Dragons, Cyclops and such. If I protect them properly they wont die.

I have been using Steam for a little bit and am pleased with how smoothe it is now that I got help with the only issue I was having.

I like my battle.net account as I am downloading all my games from them on to my hard drive right now. They come downloaded and fully patched ready to install. I hope I don't need to use the cd with them.
