Steam, Messager, Skype work but can't browse websites

Doesn't make sense. What is wrong please? I can ping google.com but can't go to it in Firefox or Internet Explorer.

This is with Vista 32 bit. It happen after uninstalling Avast free antvirus and then installing the free MS virus scanner.

Try rerunning your network connection wizard:

Might the error page be cached? Try clearing temp files and rebooting, going to google and hitting F5.

Does Avast have some kind of browser protection that might be lingering?

Does it work when you boot to Safe Mode with Networking?

Tried all of that but surfing the internet still does not work.

Post your hijackthis log

Also, are you pinging Google's IP address or the URL? If it is the URL, then it does not sound like your DNS is messed up.

Well when I ping google in dos I type www.google.com but when I type it in any internet browser it says address can not be found.

Microsoft's beta antivirus scanner (Microsoft Security Essentials) hasn't been available for download from Microsoft for a long time. Did you download it from an unauthorized source? Maybe it's a Trojanized version.

No it been on the system and sense it has better detection than avast, at the moment, I decided to install it instead.
