Apparently I don't remember my steam login or don't have the info right.

Since I hate the way it won't let you re-use a password when you change it usually, I'm not just doing that.

Any way to at least see how long the password is? Is the username to log in with the same one shown on the right of the menu at the top in Steam?

(I'm logged in to the Steam client, but can't log in to the gog link page).

it would be best to contact support about this...

however i dont think they will tell you how long the pw is, nor can you find out.
it would make the breach in your password a lot easier, hence it would compromise security.

But when you log in, it uses that name in the Steam menu, not, say, your e-mail, right?

The plot thickens: when I go to password reset, Steam offers to mail it to an address ending in @l********. But my e-mail address domain doesn't start with "l".

OK, mystery partly solved. Wiseup216, you gave the wrong answer - that is NOT my login name. I used another login name and it logged in. Not sure about the e-mail.
