Steam link unable to connect to PC

Whenever I connect via steam link to PC, it brings up the Big Picture mode and then hangs and finally disconnects. On the host PC where the games are running the Big Picture mode is stuck and if I click on the screen Windows pops up a dialog box saying 'Steam Client Bootstrapper is not responding'. I have to kill the program and steam restarts. However, I can't play games on steam link anymore. I have tried several things... updating to Beta, downgrading from Beta, steam link factory reset, reinstalling steam but nothing works permanently. I must say that Steam link has been an absolute pain and disappointment. Just horrible software.

The only thing I can think of is to check and make sure that streaming is enabled on both the host and client sides (somehwrre in the menu is the option for streaming). Are there certain video modes that would be causing issues, or maybe video card drivers?
I'm at a loss because my steam link works pretty flawlessly.
